  • MENS GOLF FOR THE W/E DECEMBER 10TH 2023

    This week saw the end of the major competitions for the year with the final of the Mansfield Golf League being completed on Thursday, more about this later.

    On Tuesday 25 played in a stableford competition with Shane O’Brien having a great round scoring 40 points beating Phil Conway on 37 points with John Koraus winning third place with 36 points on a countback  from Alex Scherini and Rob Dundas.

    On Thursday a great field of 78 played in the weekly stableford competition with the final of the Golf League being played in conjunction. With the large numbers there were 3 grades;

    A Grade

    1st: Mark Jones 41 points (h/c 2)

    2nd: Brad Grant 39 points (h/c 11)

    3rd: Peter Barnes 38 points (h/c14) on a countback

    B Grade

    1st: Rob Fankhauser 38 points (h/c 16) on a countback

    2nd: David Smithwick 38 points (h/c 17)

    3rd: Rob Pratt 37 points (h/c 18) on a countback

    C Grade

    1st: Ray Findlay 39 points (h/c 23)

    2nd: Peter Cullen 38 points (h/c 33)

    3rd: Derek Smith 37 points (h/c 25) on a countback

    A great round by Mark “Funky” Jones who started later in the afternoon and ended up playing around in 3 under par.

    The Mansfield Golf League final was completed with The Droogs beating the Weapons of Grass Destruction by a score of 108 to 102. The presentations were made at a dinner after play and the winners were roundly applauded for their victory. Peter Barnes was awarded the trophy for the most valuable player having been the player who contributed the best scores for his team during the round robin competition

    On Saturday for the first time in a few weeks play was not interrupted by rain and a great field of 42 played, with Michael Cooksey having an outstanding round scoring 46 points, 10 better than his handicap of 14 and being only 4 over par for the day. Once again with at the larger field there were 2 divisions;

    A Grade

    1st; Michael Cooksey 46 points (h/c 14)

    2nd: Tony (Tuffas) Cooksey 39 points (h/c 11)

    3rd: Rob Healy 38 points (h/c 14)

    B Grade

    1st: Daryl Horwood 38 points (h/c 25)

    2nd: Shane Brook 37 points (h/c 17)

    3rd: Ian Jones 36 points (h/c 19) on a countback

    On Thursday 21st December there will be a fun day with a Pinehurst competition  being played instead of the usual stableford competition, with a shotgun start around 1pm. There will be a draw for partners done on Wednesday evening, and all are encouraged to enter in the pro shop prior to the event.
