  • MENS GOLF FOR THE W/E FEB 4TH 2024

Finally a week that wasn’t interrupted by inclement weather, meaning that all competitions this week were played in great conditions only complimented by the course which is playing magnificently at the moment.

It’s been a very busy week, with the NEDGA Veterans playing here on Monday and culminating on Saturday with a 3 Person Ambrose that is an annul event sponsored by Millotts Concreting.

On Monday 132 players turned up to play in the North East District Golf Association veterans competition, 101 of whom were in the mens competition and another 31 in the ladies comp. The Mansfield golfers had some mixed results with Shane Brook finishing in 3rd place in B Grade with a score of 35 points and John Hawkes winning C Grade with a score of 37 points (which was the second best score of the day).

On Tuesday 20 played in a stroke competition with NicK Siperki winning with a score of -2 from Larry Ball on -1 and John Koraus finished third with a score of even winning on a countback from Ian Jones and Brad Grant.

On Thursday another great field of 70 fronted to play in the weekly stableford competition. There were a number of outstanding scores with the first 20 either equalling or beating their handicaps.

    A Grade

Nick Siperki who had a big week, winning both Tuesday’s and Thursday’s comps

    1st: Graham Clarke 40 points (h/c 11) on a countback

    2nd: Rod Sargent 40 points (h/c 3)

    3rd: Timothy Hook 39 points (h/c 5) on a countback

    B Grade

    1st: Nick Siperki 42 points (h/c 19)

    2nd: Don Clutterbuck 40 points (h/c 20)

    3rd: Bill Parsons 40 points

Nick carried on his outstanding work from earlier in the week, picking up his second win in the space of 3 days. A special mention to Rod Sargent who played a round of 1 under par. There were a number of players who returned to the club house thinking they were certainties to pick up placings only to be disappointed as scores kept tumbling.

    On Saturday the annual Millott Concreting 3 person ambrose was held. This is a great day that is a lot of fun and the hooting and hollering that was heard all day lays testament as to how much fun everyone seemed to be having. a special thank you to Buggsy for his sponsorship. The mens event attracted 19 teams of 3 and there were also 3 ladies teams competing. The scores for the day were outstanding and the results were as follows;

1st: Rod Sargent, Aaron Sargent and Kyle Bridgeman 55 net

2nd: Ross Brown, Jeremy Venerman and Mark Jones 58.333 net

3rd: Jamie Longstaff, Dale Boyd and Dale Hall 58.5 net.

There was also a special award for the nearest the pin on the 6th hole with the second shot that was won by Greg Millott and being the true gentleman that he is as the sponsor he decided that he wouldn’t take the prize so he donated it to the team that finished in last place and as a result the team of Bill Parsons, Damien Ryan and Tom Swan walked away feeling a little better.

The comments made by the visitors on Monday and a group who played with us on Saturday about the condition of the course were very pleasing, the group on Saturday said that they were amazed at how good the course looked and played, a great compliment to Tony Cooksey and his crew.

A reminder that the Hospital Auxiliary Golf Day is coming up on Sunday February 25th. If you haven’t got your entries in yet you better do it soon as places are filling quickly.
