• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending 31st March 2019

  • The lady’s pennant season is into the final couple of rounds, and we are in need of some strong wins over the next couple of weeks for our teams to make the finals. This week saw Div 1 with the Bye as they hosted at home, while Div 2 took on Wodonga at Yarrawonga. With good wins from Sam Bailey, Lyn Holland and Shelly Comerford, the team had a 3/2 win. Playing at Jubilee with the course in great condition, our Div 3 girls were hopeful that their familiarity with the course would help against the strong Commercial Albury team, but unfortunately a win to Jenny Foster and a square to Louise Calvert Jones was not enough and the team went down 3½ / 1½. Next week they face Bright at home which will also be no easy task, while Div 1 take on Benalla at Wodonga and Div 2 face Howlong at Wangaratta.
At home, Tuesday’s 9 hole stroke round was won by the ever-steady Kay Rose with nett 42.

Wednesday was our last round of our Summer Cup and we had a good field of 22 playing. The winner on the day and for Div 1 was Linda Terry with a very nice 35, with Andrea Marsden R/up with 32. Div 2 was won by Lesley Anderson (32) and Alison MacKenzie R/up (31). Line balls went to Louise Calvert-Jones, Donna Sedgman, Robyn Baker, Margie Franke Williams (all 31), Meg Broomfield (30) and Wendy Hunt (30). NTP’s went to Millie Cumming on the 3rd and Linda Terry on the 7th; the chipping was won by Shelly Comerford, and the most 3 pointers was shared by Donna Sedgman and Linda Terry (both had 6).

Thursday’s 9-hole was won by Patsy Smiles (17) and R/Up was Donnalee Ross (16). We were pleased to see a number of girls return to golf this week after knee operations, holidays and hiatus’s for various reasons!
We wrapped up our week with Monthly Medal on Saturday, sponsored this month by long-term supporter of ladies golf, Phudleys. The very welcome rain did turn a few players off at the last minute, but Shelly Comerford handled the conditions, coming in the winner on a count-back to Gayle Wells (both 77). The conditions certainly contributed to scores being higher than usual, with line balls going to Glenis Skinner (78), Lyn Poulson (79), Lesley Anderson (80), Sue Parsons (80), Millie Cumming (82) and Linda Terry (83 – that’s embarrassing!). NTP’s to Gayle Wells on 3rd, and Andrea Marsden on 16th, with Wells also taking out the putting.
Next Wednesday is our winter Opening Day and we look forward to a fun day with quite a lot of our newer golfers.
