• Xmas Fun for Mansfield Lady Golfers

  • A great day was had by all on Wednesday when 32 ladies got together for our Christmas celebration and day of fun golf. With Christmas outfits and lots of tinsel on the buggies and carts, it was a colourful lot that posed for their annual photo on the 1st tee! Playing 14 holes of Foursomes Pinehurst with a few challenging twists thrown in, each pair had to work together to come up with the goods, while not letting the bubbles which were delivered by Santa and his helper, to go to their heads! The winners of the day with an amazing 54 points, were Sam Bailey and Susan Kinloch (Upon reflection, Sam may well have had an ulterior motive by declining the bubbles!). Second was Robyn Baker and Meg Broomfield with 43 points on a countback to third place winners Marion Mitchell and Pam Abbott. Line balls went to Sue Wilson/Marion Sargeant 42, Donna Sedgman/Ann Jaggard 41, Sue Crow/Jenny Koraus 40, Glenis Skinner/Pauline Ahola 40, and Marg Knapp/Jackie Smithwick 39. Nearest the Pins went to Robyn Baker, Sam Bailey and Jenny Koraus with Wendy Hunt getting the straightest drive. The ladies enjoyed an alfresco smorgasbord lunch afterwards with presentations including the Player of the Year from our Premier League series, which was won by Lyn Poulson.

Decked out in their Christmas colours the Mansfield ladies are ready for some Xmas fun on the golf course

As for the rest of the week, Monday saw a number of ladies head to Wodonga for the monthly NE Vets round, and it was particularly pleasing to see Susan Kinloch, playing off 45, take 2nd prize with a lovely 35 points. Well done Susan!

Tuesday saw 11 ladies playing 9 holes of Par with some very consistent scores coming in. Winner of Div 1 was Linda Brook with a square on a countback to Sheryl Sargent. In Div 2, Anne Tilbrook had a great round with +1 and it was lovely to see Colleen Leeds in the winner’s circle as runner up with a square.

On Thursday, the George Walker 9 hole round was contested by 7 ladies with the Div 1 ladies being rather shown up by the higher handicap Div 2 ladies. Winner of Div 2 was Lesley Anderson with 20, while the best for Div 1 was Sam Bailey with 14!

Finally, on Saturday a relative small field of 7 played a stroke round with Robyn Baker coming in winner with a very nice nett 71, while Andrea Marsden was runner up with 74. Gayle Wells and Linda Brook both picked up a nearest the pin.

Our golfing year is not yet over, as this Wednesday will be the Ladies Monthly Medal sponsored by All Things Natural and Organic.
