  • Mansfield Ladies win Benalla Bowl

Kicking off the week was the Biggest Morning Tea which was organised by Nicki Cooper on behalf of the Mansfield Ladies for the annual Cancer Council fundraiser. The morning tea was just amazing and Dr Will Twycross carried out his role as guest speaker in his usual entertaining manner! Thanks to the many, many people who helped and made cakes and other yummy goodies and to all those who attended and helped support the day. Great effort everyone! The event raised nearly $1800 for this very worthwhile cause.

    Benall Bowl winners

Delighted with their win in the Benalla Bowl is the Mansfield team of Meg Broomfield, Jenny Koraus, Lesley Anderson and Belinda Thomas

A big contingent of 12 Mansfield ladies headed over to Benalla last week to play in their annual Maie O’Shea Bowl. Another stunning autumn day allowed for some great scores and once again, many of our ladies shone while representing our club playing away. We were delighted that of the 102 ladies playing, it was our newer and higher handicap girls who brought in the best scores and were the winners of the Bowl! The team of Meg Broomfield, Jenny Koraus, Lesley Anderson and Belinda Thomas took the win, by a very healthy margin. It was particularly exciting for Belinda who was playing in her first ever Bowl and off a handicap of 45, scored 38 points! Many thanks to the Benalla ladies who hosted a superb day and it was very much enjoyed by our girls.

At home, we played our second round of our Championships on Wednesday and as can often be the case, the lead changed and the wheat was starting to be sorted from the chaff! Donna Sedgman had a ripper day with 86 off the stick to snatch the lead from Andrea Marsden with a total of 176 for the two rounds against Andrea’s 178 and next in contention, Sheryl Sargent with 181. Leading B Grade is Marg Knapp with 185, C Grade leader is Shirley Nolan with 191 and D Grade is Wendy Hunt with 211.  For the daily stroke comp, the winner of Div 1 was Donna Sedgman with nett 72 and runner up was Gayle Wells with nett 73. In Div 2, the winner was Shelly Comerford with nett 72 and runner up, Lesley Anderson with nett 73.  Line balls went to Marg Knapp, Sue Wilson and Shirley Nolan all nett 74, Wendy Hunt and Sheryl Sargent nett 75, Patsy Smiles and Marion Mitchell nett 76 and Sue Crow nett 77. The nearest the pins went to Gayle Wells (3rd) Donna Sedgman (7th), Sam Bailey (12th) and Sue Parsons (16th). Sue Wilson won the putting, while Wendy Hunt, Robyn Baker and Patsy Smiles all shared the hidden hole prize.

For the 9 hole comps it was a delight to see Nikki Coffey back out hitting the little white ball – and not only that, but obviously hitting it very well given her 19 points to win the Tuesday comp. After a break of a couple of years due to work commitments it was clearly akin to never forgetting how to ride a bike!  Runner up of Div 1 was Robyn Baker with 17 points. In Div 2 Pam Abbott continued her winning form with 18 points and runner up Lorraine Wilson with 16.

Good luck to all players for the final round of our Championships this week and we look forward to a fun night on Wednesday celebrating the Championships with dinner and some crazy dress-ups!
