• Ladies Golf Report week ending 7th Nov 21

  • Sue Parsons in Winning Form

This week saw our ladies beginner clinics kicking off, with 22 enthusiastic ladies taking part. All available spots in our Get Into Golf program were taken up in a matter of days and there is a waiting list for more. This demand does to show that there are lots of Mansfield ladies keen to get out and give golf a go – and perhaps even more so, after the year of lockdowns and restrictions. This beginner program run over 5 weeks on Friday and Sunday mornings provides a relaxed, fun, introduction to golf for any age and there were certainly plenty of smiles and laughter during both clinics this week.

For the regular girls we saw great numbers taking part on both Wednesday and Saturday. On Wednesday, we played stableford off the shorter gold course, and it was a bit of a shock to see what our handicaps looked like for this event. But the scores demonstrated that the low handicaps were appropriate!  Nicki Cooper had a cracker of a day, winning the day and A Grade with 43 points – great effort Nicki! Runner up in A Grade was Linda Terry with 37 points on a countback to Shelly Comerford. For B Grade, Marion Sargeant took the win with a very nice 40 points with Lesley Anderson runner up, also with 37 on a countback to Louise Calvert-Jones. Other line balls went to Rosemary Fry, Pauline Ahola, Lyn Poulson, Meg Broomfield and Donna Sedgman all with 34 points, and Sheryl Sargent and Robyn Bridgewater both with 33. Nearest the pins went to Donna Sedgman on the 3rd, Lyn Holland on the 7th and Rosemary Fry on the 16th with Linda Terry having the closest 3rd shot on the 18th (in the hole in fact). Shelly Comerford won the very challenging chip and putt contest that Blair set us!

Wednesday was also our golf league round and teams to win were the Delta Divas, 70+ Ladies, Here’s Hoping, A Zees and The Vaccinated. The league ladder is led by The Vaccinated, Delta Diva’s and Here’s Hoping.

On Saturday, 13 ladies took to the course for a stroke round, and it was fantastic to see Sue Parsons bring in the best result of the year and a terrific return to form, with nett 64!  Great effort Sue! Runner up was Kylie Egan with 73. Line balls went to Linda Terry 74, Millie Cumming 78, Shelly Comerford 80, Linda Brook and Sheryl Sargent 81 and Marion Foster and Jenny Koraus 82. Nearest the pins went to Sue on the 3rd, Kylie on the 7th and Donna Sedgman on the 16th.

Next Wednesday is our Medal of Medal rounds and good luck to all contenders.
