  • Vic 4BBB  and Pennant Successes for Mansfield Ladies

Mansfield ladies have shone in the last few weeks during qualifying rounds of the Vic 4BBB Championship. This state-wide pairs event is conducted as a series of qualifying events held at a number of regional and metropolitan courses. Winners of each qualifying event progress to the State final which is to be held over 36 holes at Sorrento and The National on March 15/16. This year we have exceeded expectations with 3 pairs of ladies qualifying. Patsy Smiles and Glenis Skinner won the Cranbourne event, Shelly Comerford and Christine Fraser won the event at Southern GC and Louise Calvert-Jones and Jenny Foster won at Mornington! This is a fantastic effort in a highly sought-after event and we are immensely proud of all 6 ladies and wish them the best of luck for the final next week.

It was also a great week for our ladies in the first round of NE pennant with wins in all three divisions. In Div 1, playing against Yarrawonga at Thurgoona the girls scored a great 4/1 win. Div 2 beat Bright at Yarrawonga by the same margin and Div 3 were triumphant over Corowa at Albury, also 4/1.  That is a ripping outcome by any measure! No pennant this week due to the long week, but we are certainly keen to get out there again the following week in the hope this form can continue.

    Div 1 Pennant Team 2021

Div 1 Pennant team are all smiles after their win over Yarrawonga.

In our regular comps, our week started on Tuesday with Jenny Koraus winning the 9-hole stableford event. On Wednesday a great field of 25 turned out for a round of Summer Cup. Winner of the day and Div 2 was Margie Franke-Williams with a lovely score of 38 points, with Patsy Smiles not far behind on 37. In Div 1, it was great to see Sue Parsons have a return to form with a win and 37 points. Runner up there was Sam Bailey with 34. Line Balls went to Shirley Nolan 34, Marion Sargeant, Jenny Koraus, Linda Brook and Robyn Baker, all  with 33 points. Nearest the pins went to Sam Bailey on the 3rd, Linda Terry on the 7th and Marg Knapp on the 16th. The best score on holes 1-6 was shared between Linda Brook and Patsy Smiles.

On Saturday, being a long weekend it was lovely to see quite a few of our country members and visitors being able to join in on our comp, but it was Marion Foster who was obviously enjoying her holidays to take the win with a fabulous score of 40 points. Well done Marion! Gillian Emond of Peninsula was runner up with 38 points.
