  • Rain Puts Dampeners on Ladies Clinics

Talk about unusual weather for February!  For the second week in a row, our Friday “Get into Golf” clinics for the ladies were washed out. So we have everything crossed for drier conditions this coming Friday so that the 2 groups can complete their 5-week program. In the meantime, our Sunday group have had gorgeous weather throughout and have wrapped up their program last weekend, ending their session with bubbles and lots of laughs. All those who attended were full of enthusiasm and energy and we really look forward to helping them continue on with their new-
found skills and seeing them out on the course as regulars.

Celebrating the completion of their 5-week “Get into Golf” program.
L-R: Linda Terry (Capt), Trudie Horsfall, Anne Bloomfield, Kylie Ackland, Sophie Schapiro, Dan Robertson (Professional), Meredith Burrell, Annmaree Howland, Jackie Smithwick (member helper), Rachel Devere and Michelle McGuire.

Huge thanks to our Professional Dan Robertson for his commitment to these clinics, also to our Trainee Pro Blair St Anne and to so many of our lady members have been helping and giving so much of their time.

For the regular competitions, here are the results:

Pam Abbott sends her putt on its way on the 18th

Tuesday 9-holes stroke was won by Glenis Skinner with a great score of nett 34 and runner up Anne Watkins, with nett 40. Div 2 was taken out by Pam Abbott nett 45, and runner up Dulcie Donaghy nett 47.

Wednesday was a round of Summer Cup stableford and there were some very good scores, which were indicative of the great conditions after the rain the previous week. Best on the day and winning Div 2 was Marion Mitchell with 39 points. Runner up for Div 2 was Patsy Smiles with 38 points. In Div 1, it was good to see Vice Captain Sheryl Sargent back on a Wednesday and taking the win, also with 38 points. Runner up was the in-form Glenis Skinner with 37 points. Line balls are too many to list but went down to 30 points! Nearest the pins went to Robyn Baker (3rd) Gayle Wells (7th), Andrea Marsden (9th) and Marion Mitchell (16th).

Thursday saw a good turnout of 10 ladies to play their George Walker 9 holes and winners were Anne Watkins in Div 1 with 14 and Anne Tilbrook in Div 2 with 13.

Finally on Saturday, it was the Millott family sponsored 3-person Ambrose and it was great to see the all-female team of Sheryl Sargent, Linda Brook and Jackie Smithwick take the win, just proving you don’t always need the help of a big-hitting male player to win an ambrose event! Runners up were the team of Donna Sedgman, David Octigan and Nick Jones.
