• Ladies Golf Report week ending 31st Jan

  • Terry Breaks Captains Curse!

What a lovely drenching the course received this week and the cooler temperatures made the golf even more pleasurable.

Our week began on Tuesday with a small but dedicated group of regulars who dodged the downpours on Australia Day to play nine holes of Par. Winner with a square was Glenis Skinner.

On Wednesday the skies cleared for 28 girls to pair up for Pinehurst Foursomes. This is a great competition for mixed handicap pairings, and the winnings in Div 1 went to Rosemary Fry and visitor friend, Jan Smallman with nett 68. The Div 2 winners, just half a shot behind with nett 68.5 were Shirley Nolan and Pauline Ahola. Line balls went to Donna Sedgman/Gayle Wells, Wendy Hunt/Marion Mitchell, Margie Franke-Williams/Sue Parsons and Linda Brook/Robyn Baker. Nearest the pins went to Marg Knapp on the 3rd, Gayle Wells on the 7th and Linda Brook on the 16th.

Glorious rain overnight left the bunkers out of play for Monthly Medal

On Thursday, Marion Sargeant took the win for the 9 hole George Walker round with 17 points.

Finally, on Saturday it was time for the January Monthly Medal, sponsored by Cathy Henry Pharmacy. It was a very good field of 21 for a Saturday and with still quite a bit of casual water lying around, it was quite a different course to play on than in the past couple of months. This writer is very happy to report that the winner of the Medal and Div 1 was Linda Terry with nett 70 – her first medal in 4 years, so the “Captains Curse” may have finally been dispelled! Lyn Poulson also had a very nice nett 73 to win Div 2. Runners up were Andrea Marsden, 75 in Div 1 and Marion Sargeant, 78, in Div 2. Line balls went to Sheryl Sargent and Donna Sedgman both 77, Millie Cumming 78, Marion Mitchell 79, Sue Parsons 80 and Jackie Smithwick, Wendy Hunt and Sam Bailey all 81. Linda Terry also won the putting and nearest the pins went to Millie Cumming, Donna Sedgman and Shelly Comerford.

Ladies clinics were washed out on Friday but there will be double sessions for their final week next week and there will be some special celebrations for the completion of the 5 week program for these 30 ladies!
