• Ladies Golf Report week ending 28th Nov

  • First Monthly Medal for Smithwick

Another busy week for ladies golf and some changes and new directions behind the scenes, make life for our Mansfield ladies interesting as always.  Firstly to the results for the week and we continue to be blessed with great golfing conditions and good field numbers as a result.

Tuesday kicked off with 12 ladies playing and winner was once again Kerri Nicol off 45, with 18 points – a testament to the merit of the handicap system and that you can win a comp even from a high handicap, so give it a go all those ladies who are just taking up golf!  Jenny Koraus took out A grade with 16 points. Runners up were Glenis Skinner for A grade with 15 and Susan Kinloch with 13.

On Wednesday we had round 8 of premier league and 30 participants. Winner overall and for B Grade was Shirley Nolan with 35 points and runner up Meg Broomfield 32. In A grade the winner was Millie Cumming with 34 and runner up Marg Knapp 33. Line balls went to 29 and Nearest the pins went to Marg Knapp 3rd, Sam Bailey 7th, Gayle Wells 9th, Nicki Cooper 16th and Andrea Marsden 3rd shot on the 18th.  Premier League winners were The Trio, Partee Girls, 70+ Ladies, Delta Divas and Here’s Hoping. With one week to go, the Delta Divas are on top of the ladder, then Par Tee Girls and Here’s Hoping all with 6 wins, with 70+ Ladies one win behind. Their round this week might prove all important as they face the Par Tee Girls to determine the final 4 teams to go into the semis.

Not surprisingly, no ladies played Thursday due to the terrible rainy conditions but on Saturday we had 15 ladies contesting the November Monthly Medal, sponsored by Delatite Dental. It was exciting to see Jackie Smithwick win her first ever medal with nett 74 from Sue Parsons nett 75. Well done Jackie…a very well deserved win, which was made more challenging by having to put up with this writer in terrible form and I’m relieved I didn’t drag her down to my level!  Line balls went to Millie Cumming 76, Lesley Anderson 77 and Glenis Skinner, Gayle wells, Marion Sargeant all on 78. Marion Foster picked up the Nearest the Pin on the 3rd, and Jackie on the 16th. Jenny Koraus won the putting.

We have just completed week 4 of our clinics with Blair teaching the finer points of putting and all the participants are showing good progress in their golfing skills. Next week will see them out on course trying to put it all together over a 2 hour clinic.

Finally, I would like to mention that after 5 years as Ladies Captain, I am handing over the reins to Sheryl Sargent this week who I know will hit the ground running having been a fantastic Vice Captain to me for these past years. Good luck Sheryl and I will still be here helping in any capacity needed, perhaps including still doing these reports. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years as captain and thank all the girls for their great support and camaraderie. It is also a changing of the guard for the men as Laurie Harcus was elected Club Captain at the club AGM on Sunday and I’d like to wish him every success as he embarks on that role and thanks to Phil Conway for his commitment to the role of Club Captain over the last couple of years. We also welcome new Board Members Louise Calvert-Jones and Sue Crow and wish them all the best in their new roles as well. It is great to see the ladies being represented by not one but two, very capable ladies. Our thanks of course, go to Marion Sargeant who is retiring from the board after 8 years in which she has been a dedicated and hard-working Board member.
