• Ladies Golf Report week ending 17 Dec 2023

  • Xmas Golf and Presentations

The lady golfers held their annual Christmas golf and lunch this week and as always it was full of laughter and dress ups – though the elements on Wednesday threw in an unpleasant side to the day. The day was so very hot and the wind was howling…umbrellas wouldn’t stay up and the sun was blazing! Samta delivered some bubbles, but we perhaps needed buckets of water instead! But we soldiered on and were very relieved to arrive back at the clubhouse and sit down to a fabulous smorgasbord Christmas lunch by the Rangeview Restaurant.

The comp of the day was a pairs Pinehurst event with a draw for partners. The combination of Marion Mitchell and Marg Knapp had a cracking score for the 16 holes of 57.5, to win the day. Runners Up were Lorraine Cullen and Lorraine Wilson, also with 57.5 only losing on a countback, while 3rd was Shelly Comerford and Lesley Anderson with 58. 4th was Lyn Holland and Jenny Koraus 58.5 and Nicki Cooper and Louise Calvert-Jones rounded out the prizes with 59.5.  Nearest the pins went to Jennie Rennie (3rd and 16th) Linda Brook (7th) and Sam Bailey and Jennie Rennie also took both 2nd shots – to the 9th and 12th.

Ladies Captain Sheryl Sargent, ably assisted by Vice Captains Linda Brook and Nicki Cooper did a number of presentations at the lunch, to wrap up our year. These included the ignominious award of the 3-putt trophy. This is awarded to the player who scored the highest percentage of 3 putts for the year. All the ladies “donate” 50 cents to the Cancer Council every time they have a 3-putt hole and we have collectively donated around $700 this year! To shame and name the overall winner – Pauline Ahola was the one who had to hold the trophy aloft – but she did win a putting lesson voucher as a consolation!

Our Winter Block Comp prizes were also presented. As was the annual prize for the player achieving the greatest handicap reduction which was won by Kerrie Nicol, who brought her handicap down by 5 shots. The 2023 Premier League prizes were then presented, including a countdown Brownlow style, for the player of the year. This was won by Millie Cumming. The winners of the Premier League were the Hot Shots team, of Marion Mitchell, Marion Sargeant and Shelly Comerford – all were delighted with their win.

And so ends another golfing year and it is timely to thank our captain Sheryl, for all the time and hard work she puts in to organise us all and to ensure our golf is so much fun and so rewarding. Thanks also to Linda and Nicki as Vice Captains, including managing the record keeping of our results for the various season comps such as those presented this week.

But golf is played 52 weeks of the year, so other results for the week include Thursday’s 9 hole which was won by Andrea Marsden with 21 points. Saturday’s stroke round saw some terrific scores with none better than Jenny Koraus taking the win with nett 68 from Marion Foster 2nd and Lyn Poulson 3rd both with nett 69. Line balls went to Andrea Marsden also 69, Sheryl Sargent 70 and Susan Kinloch 72. Nearest the pins went to Linda Terry and Sue Kinloch.
