• Ladies Golf Report week ending 16th May

  • Marsden wins Ladies Championships

This week saw the ladies playing the final round of their 3 week Championships and the day started with only 2 shots between leader Donna Sedgman and second placed Andrea Marsden. The third in the group was Sheryl Sargent just another 3 shots behind. So the Championship was anyone’s to win and Sheryl Sargent in particular, hit her straps early, playing beautiful golf to bring herself well into contention. But it was Andrea Marsden who held her nerve and played very consistent golf, while Sheryl had a couple of difficult holes and Donna just couldn’t quite maintain her great form of the previous week. The end result was the Championship was Marsden’s by 5 shots with 265 off the stick over the 3 rounds, to Sargent on 270 and Sedgman on 271.  B Grade went to Marg Knapp who kept her round 2 lead to win with 284, 5 shots ahead of second placed Linda Brook. Shirley Nolan played 3 fabulous rounds to lead C Grade from start to finish, winning by 18 shots with 287 from Marion Mitchell. Shirley also won the Nett Championship with nett 209. D Grade was won by Wendy Hunt by 15 shots from Jackie Smithwick. Huge apology but this writer incorrectly announced at our dinner, the winner of the Vet’s Championship based on nett results, not gross. The winner of the Vets was in fact Sue Crow with a gross score of 283. Well done Sue and apologies to Shirley for getting you more excited than you already were!

The ladies wrapped up their Championships with a lovely dinner in The Ranges and there were some very innovative and fun outfits meeting the requirement of “something beginning with M”!

It will be a quieter week at home this week with quite a lot of our girls heading to Mildura for some sunshine and lots of golf in the Tri-State championships. We hope they bring home some of the trophies!
