Ladies Golf Report week ending 15th Aug

Linda Brook wins  Bill Reardon

In our stop-start life, it was great to be back to golf last week. Jenny Koraus was quick out of the blocks on Tuesday to take the win in a very small field, for the 9 holes

On Wednesday, the weather was perfect, the course was drying out, the mowers were humming and the smell of fresh cut grass put smiles on everyone’s faces! With our largest field for quite some time, 18 ladies were very happy to be chasing that little white ball once again. But let’s face it, there is still not too much run out there, so the scores aren’t exactly mind blowing, but no-one was complaining. Least of all Lyn Poulson who took the money with 30 stableford points, on a countback from Sheryl Sargent. Good effort ladies. Line balls went to Sam Bailey, Gayle Wells, Sue Crow, Linda Brook, Sue Parsons, Louise Calvert-Jones and Marion Sargeant. Linda Brook won the nearest the pin on the 3rd, Shelly Comerford on the 7th and Millie Cumming on the 16th. Linda Brook also won the chipping contest, which was a particularly fun and innovative challenge set up by Blair! We should also thank Brad Grant for his supervision and demonstrations of how it should be done!

Now all that chipping practice may well have left Linda Brook in good stead for the finals of the Bill Reardon Handicap Matchplay Championship. Played between Linda and Shelly Comerford on Sunday, it was set to be a close match over 27 holes, with only one shot difference in handicap between them. Sadly for Shelly however, Linda came out with all guns blazing and could do no wrong on the first 9, to take a commanding lead at the first turn. Despite a gallant effort from Shelly over the next nine to stem the tide, it was thanks to great chipping skills and a steady hand down the fairway, that found Linda Brook taking the win on the 19th hole. Congratulations to both ladies for reaching the final and in particular to Linda, for getting her name on the honourboard for this prestigious event for 2021.

With it feeling like spring is in the air, and quite a few special events coming up in the next few weeks, we are all hopeful that we can get back to more regular golf for the rest of the year.
