Ladies Golf Report Week Ending 14th Feb

Matchplay Practice for Ladies

With our pennant season looming (Covid permitting!) our ladies had a Matchplay practice day for their 18 hole Wednesday golf this week. With each group of 4 playing off over two nine-hole Matchplay rounds, it was a great refresher and brought out our competitive side to the fore!  Thanks especially to John Koraus who bravely joined the other 27 ladies to make up the even grouping needed and this writer can personally vouch for his tough competitive spirit! Winners from the 7 groups were: Lorraine Cullen, Louise Calvert-Jones, Linda Terry, Sue Crow, Jenny Foster, Andrea Marsden and Sam Bailey. Nearest the pins went to Donna Sedgman, John Koraus, Marg Knapp and Sam Bailey. Marion Sargeant had the best chip and Margie Frankie-Williams the closest putt to round off our matchplay practice.

For the 9-hole rounds, the winner on Tuesday playing Par was Jenny Koraus with Square for Div 1 and Anne Tilbrook -3 for Div 2. On Thursday, the George Walker stableford round was contested by 12 ladies and the winner of Div 1 was Marion Mitchell with 17 points on a countback to Sam Bailey and in Div 2, Wendy Hunt won with a very nice 18 points over Anne Watkins with 15.

Sadly the Covid lockdown means no Tuesday or Wednesday golf for our girls this week, and a number of ladies have missed traveling away to play qualifying rounds for the Victorian 4BBB series. Hopefully the lockdown will the limited to the 5 days and these events will be rescheduled.

Celebrating the end of their 5 week Get into Golf Program are Dawn Carey, Linda Terry, Kate Bridgewater, Marion Sargeant, Erna Brill, Judy Flanders, Gail Hart and Ines Saunders

Meanwhile, after 2 weeks of Friday rain washing out our clinics, our remaining two groups of ladies taking part in the Get into Golf clinics, were finally able to finish off their 5 week program with “double-header” 2 hour sessions on Friday. All still just as enthusiastic despite the interruptions, it was fantastic to see their improvement and there are definitely a few who we can see, have caught the golfing bug!  Looking forward to seeing you all out there on the course in future ladies!
