• Ladies Golf Report week ending 11 Feb 24

  • Got to love Summer Golf

Well, having passed the reins for writing this report to someone else, that “someone” has nicked off overseas for quite a period – thanks Marion!  So, back to me to hearing from me for a while!

The ladies kicked off a busy week of golf with 9 of them turning out for 9 holes off the front on Tuesday, and Pam Abbott was playing to her handicap with 17 stableford points. The rest of the field have a little work to do – second was Jenny Koraus 14 on a countback to Patsy Smiles.

On Wednesday, it was a round of Summer Cup and a good field of 26 were trying their best. Kerri Nicol was in blistering form to win the day and B Grade with a wonderful round of 44 points. Kerri was recently awared the 2023 prize for the greatest handicap reduction for the year and she is continuing to shatter that handicap this year!  Nicki Cooper should also be well pleased with her round of 38 points to win A Grade. Runner up in A Grade was Shirley Nolan with 33 and third, Lyn Poulson 30. In B Grade the runner up was Jenny Koraus with a very nice 36 points and third was Lorraine Wilson, 35k points.  Sam Bailey picked up 2 NTP’s on the 3rd and 7th while Lorraine Wilson had the best second shot on the 12th and Nicki Cooper was nearest to the pin on the 16th.

Good to see a few girls playing 9 on Thursday – and the result was the same as Tuesday – Pam Abbott winning with 17 points again – steady as she goes!

Saturday was a bit quiet – was it possibly due to the comp being the dreaded “Par’? But old hand Millie Cumming isn’t faxed by such formats – winning the day with a great score of +3. Pauline Ahola was also steady with +1 and Jenny Foster square to her card.

Finally on Sunday, it was time for the North East District Opening Day for men and women, held at Benalla. On a picture-perfect day, the Mansfield ladies were well represented by 9 players for the aggregate stableford pairs event. It was great to see relative newcomer to golf, Sharon Gysberts along with her partner Alex Scherini coming runner up in the mixed comp. The next district event for the ladies is the Women’s Opening Day at Yarrawonga on Friday 23rd Feb and it won’t be long after that before the pennant season kicks off. There is always some golfing fun to look forward to.
