• Men’s Golf Report Week Ending 24th January 2021

  • What a week it has been on the golf course. We have had two holes-in-one!
    The first was on Monday during the North East Vets competition when our own Bobby Cullen had his Hole in One on the twelfth hole, and then not to be outdone Alan Eustace followed up with his Hole in One on the seventh hole on Saturday.

    Monday’s warm weather brought out 102 players to contest the NEDVGA men’s section at Mansfield.
    With a large contingent of Mansfield Vets in the field, we had winners in each of the three grades. Maurie Walsh (9) achieved third spot in Division One with 34 points.
    In Division Two Mansfield cleaned up with Col Whytcross (18) first with 38 points, followed by Bob Cullen (13) and Rob Fankhauser (14) both with 37 points.
    In division Three, Steve Chiodo (25) with 35 points was second.
    Ball rundown went to 31 points on a countback. The nearest the pins were Maurie Walsh on the third and on the sixteenth was Rob Fankhauser.

    Tuesday’s continuing warm weather brought out 36 players to play in the gold tee challenge. This was a 2 person Ambrose event.
    The winners were the pairing of Alan Parrott and Rod Sargent (3.25) with a nett 53.75. Inn second place were Peter Smiles and John Koraus (9.25) with nett 55.75 on a countback from Brad Grant and Taki Murakami (4.5).
    Ball rundown went to nett 59.

    Thursday’s event saw a field of 69 golfing enthusiasts fronting the starter for the regular Stableford event with some excellent scores being returned. There were also three competitors in the Gold event.
    The winner of Division One was Mic Davis (11) with equal best score of the day of 41 points from Dave Octigan (9) with 36 points.
    The winner of Division Two was Geoff Morris (14) also with equal best score of the day in 41 points from Alan Agar (14) with 40 points.
    The winner of Division Three was Daryl Horwood (28) with 38 points from Gordon Jeffs with 37 points.
    Ball run down went 33 points on a countback.
    The nearest the pins were Martin Slack on the third, Phil Conway on the seventh, Laurie Harcus on the ninth, Rod Sargent on the twelfth and Nick Siperki on the sixteenth. NTP second shot on the eighteenth was Phil Conway and the Hidden Holes winner was Mic Davis.
    The winner of the Gold Event was John McCaskill (19) with 25 points.
    There were two rabbits for the day, being Peter Dolling and Bill Parsons.

    Saturday’s event was a stableford competition with 54 competitors in the field with mammoth scores being returned.
    The winner of Division One was Blake Harris from Keysborough (0) with 39 points from Mic Davis (11) with 38 points.
    The winner of Division Two was Jason Christopher (32) with the score of the day a fantastic 49 points from runner-up Aaron Knight (20) with 45 points.
    Ball run down went to 35 points on a countback. The nearest the pins were on the third Josh Foots, the seventh went to Alan Eustace (HiO), the ninth was Blake Harris, the twelfth was Jason Christopher and on the sixteenth was Wayne Sargent. The NTP second shot on the eighteenth and third shot on the fifteenth was Dan Robertson. The NTP third shot on the tenth was Daryl Horwood, and the NTP second shot on the seventeenth was Aaron Knight.
