• Men’s Golf Report – Week ending 19th May 2019

  • Congratulations to Mic Davis and Shelley Commerford on their respective wins in the Bill Reardon Matchplay Championship.

    The Midweek results

    Tuesday had a field of 25 players competing in a par event.
    The winner was Chris Purcell (28) with plus two on a countback from Neil Walker (28). Ball rundown went to square on a countback. Nearest the Pin on the third and the seventh was Bob Cullen, on the ninth was Blair Alan Eustace, on the twelfth was Blair St Anne and on the sixteenth was Brad Grant. Nearest the Pin second shot on the eighteenth was Steve McMahon.

    Thursday’s event saw the regular Stableford event being conducted with some excellent scores being returned, with fifty-six players in the competition and three in the Gold event. The winner of Division One was Chris Leaman (17) with an excellent score of 43 points from Mark Pearson (9) with 37 points. The winner of Division Two was Don Clutterbuck (21) with 40 points from Peter Hunt (29) on a countback. Ball run down went 35 points on a countback. Nearest the pins were Shaun Wade on the third, Kevin Jacobs on the seventh, Rod Sargent on the ninth, Peter Cullen on the twelfth and Tony Crawford on the sixteenth. Nearest the pin second shot on the eighteenth was collected by Don Clutterbuck and closest to the pin third shot on the fifteenth was Rod Sargent. The closest to the pin on the first second shot H’cap 18+ was Josh Foots and for H’cap 0-17 was Rod Sargent.
    The Gold event was won by Keith Millott (33) with 38 points.
    There were two rabbits for the day, being Brendan Egan and Shaun Wade.

    The Weekend results

    Saturday’s event was a 3 person Ambrose Fundraising event in aid of Oliver Shaw going to the United States with a golf scholarship.
    The winners of the event were Shaun Wade, Sam Sandhu and Oli Shaw with a 53.17 nett. Runners up were Sheryl Sargent, Rob Fankhauser and Len Foster with a nett 54.33. Nearest the pins were the group of Trevor Wright, John Hayes and Peter Vallance on the third, and on the seventh it was Charlie Heat, Adrian Smith and Rod Sargent.

    The finals for the Bill Reardon Matchplay Championship were played on Sunday over 27 holes. The results were Mic Davis defeated Phil Conway 6 and 5, whilst in the ladies Shelley Commerford was triumphant over Linda Brook 2 and 1.
