• Men’s Golf News Week Ending 8th May, 2022

  • Have faith, I’m struggling to get photos on tonight, maybe look tomorrow. Sorry Brad.

Tempestuous weather, rain and snow forecast for the area for the past week. Not to be. Fine weather Tuesday and a reasonable Thursday. Whew!

    Tuesday stroke event

    1st – Brad Grant net 70

    2nd – Domingo Diaz net 71 C/B

    3rd – Taki Murakami net 71

All three players had a 10 handicap (now that is different). The start of a big week for Brad Grant after easily winning his Sunday pennant match. Domingo is going well in building his bank balance up for his annual migration to the warmer climes up north. Taki is in the money for the fourth week in a row. Boring!

    Thursday Stableford.

    A grade

    1st – Brad Grant 36 pts (9 h/c)

    2nd – Gary Johnson 34 pts C/B (16 h/c)

    3rd – Rob Dundas 34 pts (6 h/c)

Keep watching for this winning name. Brad Grant!!!!!

Good second Gary, you are winning in the same vein as your cherished Melbourne football team. Rob Dundas, a sneaky little lad who hails from Yarck each week and formerly of Alex. wants to win to pay for the petrol to travel here and is doing it very nicely. A very tidy score considering his 6 handicap.

    B grade

    1st – Bob Speed 37 pts (h/c 22).

    2nd – Trevor Wright 35 pts (h/c 20)

    3rd – Justin Hotton 34 pts (h/c 18)

Well Bob, a few very good weeks for you. A fair bit of money to support your Navy pension. Justin, now there is a lad. Destroyed his handicap with his recent 51 pts by 15 shots. Has now slid out to 18, respectable, hits it the proverbial mile. Chipping and putting…..see you next week!! Watch this space about this lad. What about Trevor Wright not a young lad and is so consistent, well done mate.

    Saturday – Stableford.

    One Division

    1st – Brad Grant 41 pts (9 h/c)

    2nd – Jarrod Heath 36 pts (8 h/c)

    3rd – Shane Brook 35 pts (19 h/c)

About an earlier comment ‘watch this space’. Brad has done the trifecta. Won every competition for the week, Tue, Thurs and Sat. Words fail! Has it been done before?? an amazing purple patch which we hope continues into next weekend when he leads the handicap pennant team into a battle with Corowa in the final. Albeit, he has dropped handicap shots, naughty. Will not worry him though. We tried to get both pennant finals to the lovely Benalla course so that we could have lots of spectators, not to be.

I have this section for special and/or for wonderful aspects often. Or anything else that needs highlighting You will not know, as I didn’t. We had a great result recently for Mansvegas (as I call it). David Smithwick won the ‘A’ Grade Great Alpine Classic…. Playing in three events at Myrtleford, Bright and Wangaratta. He won easily with three consistent stableford scores of 36 pts, three shots clear. We are proud of you David (also a member of last years h/cap pennant team and didn’t lose a match).

Keep watching…..tomorrow Mon. our lovely ladies are in both Div 1 and Div 2 pennant finals. We are very proud of them as well.

I have a sneaky suspicion that I will be sharing with you exploits of Geoff Brown. I’ll leave it at that for now. Interested to hear the ‘goss’ from our members that ventured to Barham this week????

    Stay well, stay happy.
