• Men’s Golf News Week Ending 15th May, 2022

  • Tuesday Stableford event

    1st – Domingo Diaz 36 pts (9 h/c)

    2nd – Bill Parsons 35 pts C/B (15 h/c)

    3rd – Malcolm Griffiths 35 pts (19 h/c)

‘Mingo’ as he is affectionately known has excelled second week in a row going from 2nd to 1st, more pleasing for him is excelling again after losing a shot last week and again is in single figures. Bill Parsons defies the years and slips in these continual good results. Malcolm is a star on the rise and will steadily drop in the ‘handicap stakes’ with his long hitting and more time on the fairways.

    Thursday Stableford.

    One division

    1st – John Gilson 43 pts (h/c 25)

    2nd – Mark Jones 38 pts (h/c 1)

    3rd – Kyle Bridgeman 37 pts (h/c 3)

Great credit to John for his excellent 43 pts. particularly considering the more difficult conditions as the course gets wetter and the weather colder. Seven shots below his handicap had John playing into the ‘teens handicap. The two placegetters were also amazing, especially as this was a warmup for their Pennant final the following Sunday. Funky Jones really had a good day playing to +1 off the stick. Kyle, again heading towards the rarely achieved (for the rest of we mere mortals) zero handicap.

Saturday – Stableford and a mixed Stableford event.

Kyle Bridgeman summarizing his putt as he continues on his winning way

4BBB (four ball better ball) a lady and man team event, a prestigious event and the major event of the day.

1st – Virginia (Sam) Bailey and David Smithwick 44 stableford pts.

2nd – Sheryl Sargent with Kyle Bridgeman 41 pts.

3rd – Sue Crowe and ‘hubby’ Colin Whytcross 40 pts.

An excellent result for ‘Sam’ Bailey a regular prize-winner in the ladies competitions and David who starred last week winning the recent Great Alpine Classic ‘A’ grade. Another tick for Sheryl, our respected ladies Club Captain, in the list of awards available to her. Kyle again, his name featured 10 lines up the page continues his scintillating form.

Sue Crowe (one of our club board members) also starred and got so close to the top along with teammate and house mate Colin, he also was on fire with a chip in and a NTP and birdie on the 16th.

    Stableford results

    1st – Trevor Wright 37 pts (h/c 20)

    2nd – Alan Eustace 36 pts (h/c 14)

    3rd – Bob Speed 33 pts (h/c 21)

Well done to Trevor who is on the podium two weeks in row. Alan and Bob, regular playing partners shared the limelight as well. One can only imagine the banter and slander on this day between them with only Fred Rogers to keep the peace.

Some well earned praise for our General Manager, Greg Nugent and his wife Leanne. Not only is Greg extra supportive of the golf operations and teams, he goes out of his way to assist however he can. Leanne and Greg both do many tasks that people are unaware of e.g., regularly being at the club early preparing wraps for various lady pennant and ‘bowl’ events, cooking barbeques, assisting in the kitchen when they are short staffed, even ‘bussing’ food and glassware. It doesn’t go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.

    Stay well, stay happy.
