  • MENS GOLF FOR THE WEEK ENDING 7TH JAN

The New Year has arrived with some fantastic numbers competing in 3 competitions this past week, along with some challenging weather and as a result some trying conditions.

On Tuesday prior to the thunderstorms 43 players competed in a stroke play competition with some good scores being registered. With the good numbers there were 2 divisions with the results being

    A Grade

    1st:                   Domingo Diaz (h/c 13)            -3

    2nd:                  Alex Scherini (h/c 8)                +1 (on a countback)

    3rd                    Brad Grant (h/c 10)                 +1

    B Grade

    1st:                   Jack Marks (h/c 23)                 -4

    2nd:                  Luke Murray (h/c 15)              -1

    3rd:                   Ian Jones (h/c 19)                   Ev

Great to see Mingo back on top of the leaders board and a great round by Jack whose handicap will come down the next time he has a hit.

On Thursday we had a great field of 80 front the starters gun. The conditions were a little more challenging due to the damage caused by Tuesdays thunderstorm which had created a quite a bit of damage to a number of trees on the course.

    A Grade

    1st:                   Maurice Walsh (h/c 10)          36 points

    2nd:                  Shaun Wade (h/c 5)                35 points (on a countback)

    3rd:                   Taki Murakami (h/c 13)           35 points

    B Grade

    1st:                   Ricky Palmer (h/c 19)              39 points

    2nd:                  Malcolm Griffiths (h/c 18)      38 points

    3rd:                   Stephen Daykin (h/c 16)         36 points

    C Grade

    1st:                   Larry Ball (h/c 26)                   40 points

    2nd:                  Ray Findlay (h/c 22)                35 points (on a countback)

    3rd:                   Peter Sargeant (h/c 22)           35 points

Maurice continues his consistent form with a great win in A Grade. Ricky Plummer was a visitor from Sandringham Golf Club and Larry Ball had a great round to have the best score of the day and collecting his first win in a very long time.

On Saturday we had the largest field we have had in a very long time for a Saturday competition with 73 playing. This number was up around the numbers that we usually get on a Thursday. Once again the numbers meant that we had 3 divisions.

    A Grade

    1st:                   Mark Jones (h/c 1)                  40 points

    2nd:                  Daniel Baxter (h/c 7)               38 points (on a countback) – Sandhurst GC

    3rd:                   Jarrod Heath (h/c 8)                38 points

    B Grade

    1st:                   Geoffrey Morris (h/c 19)         37 points

    2nd:                  Stephen Daykin (h/c 16)         36 points

    3rd:                   Philip Reid (h/c 15)                 35 points

    C Grade

    1st:                   Jonathon Gifford (h/c 29)       41 points

    2nd:                  Danny Oliver (h/c 33)              40 ponts

    3rd:                   Nate Longstaff (h/c 28)           37 points

Well done to Funky on his great round, fatherhood must be doing him the world of good, a couple of really good rounds from those in C Grade with Jonathon and Danny both playing well above their handicaps. Nice to Geoffrey Morris having a great round and well done to Stephen Daykin for getting his second placing in a week.

A big thank you to those members who turned up on Wednesday morning to help with the clean up after Tuesdays thunderstorm, without their help the course would probably have been almost unplayable with broken trees over a number of the holes.
