MENS GOLF FOR THE W/E 12 NOV 2023
This week saw the end of the club championships with the match play competitions being completed. The A Grade Final was completed a couple of weeks ago with Mark Jones being the victor over Craig Walsh. On Sunday the B & C Grade finals were played, with the D Grade final having been decided on Saturday, these finals were played over 27 holes with the winners being;
B Grade:
Brad Grant defeated Justin Sargent – 6 up with 5 to play
C Grade:
Alan Parrott defeated Paul Richardson – 5 up with 3 to play
D Grade:
Tom Swan defeated Adrian Smith – 6 up with 5 to play.
Congratulations to the 4 winners of these board events.
On Tuesday 21 ventured out to play in a stableford competition with the winner being Don Clutterbuck with a score of 39 (h/c 21), Alex Scherini finished in second place on 37 points (h/c 9) on a countback from Beau Purcell who also had 37 points (h/c 23), Brad Grant was the unlucky one having also finished on 37 points (h/c 12) but finished in fourth spot.
On Thursday a great field of 76 competed in the weekly stableford round. With this number there were 2 divisions;
A Grade:
1st: Phil Conway 36 points (h/c 10) on a countback
2nd: Rob Healy 36 points 9h/c 14) on a countback
3rd: Josh Foots 36 points (h/c 11) on a countback
B Grade:
1st: John Saggers 45 points (h/c 18)
2nd: Aaron Knight 41 points (h/c 41)
3rd: David Wilson 37 points (h/c 25) on a countback
In a Grade there were 5 players who had scores of 36 points which showed how tight the competition with the first 3 having better scores on the back 9 hence winning the prizes. B Grade was more more clear cut with John Saggers have a brilliant round shooting a score that was 9 shots better than his handicap, with a score of 80 off the stick. His handicap will certainly come down this week. On any give week Aaron Knight with a score of 41 would have won but unfortunately not this time.
On Saturday the Annual Glen Foursomes event (which is a mixed event) was played over 27 holes. The winners were Peter Barnes and Pauline Ahola were the winners with a nett score of 104, in second place was the team of Geoff Brown and Millie Cumming with a score of 107.5 and the third place team was John and Jenny Koraus. A great fun day although the very warm conditions did make playing 27 holes a little more difficult.
The Mansfield Golf League is nearing conclusion with 2 rounds to play, after the fifth round the Shitty Shitty Bang Bangs are on top of the ladder with 4 wins with the Snake Pit in second place also on 4 wins with the Weapons of Grass Destruction in third place also on 4 wins . The X-Factors are in fourth place on 2 wins, hanging on by percentage from The Gimmies and Mansfield Marauders also on 2 wins. At this stage the Droogs and Boom Shaka Lack are on 1 win apiece but still with a chance to make the finals.
