• Mansfield Men’s Golf Week Ending 19th June, 2022

  • What are dart boards gracing a golf report for? A very fair question with a simple answer. Commencing this Tuesday

Assistant manager David Joyce testing the new boards for Tuesday night comps. The night is his creation

at the Golf Club will be a team dart competition. The format will be ‘501’ in teams of four. Many opposition players will be pleased that ‘Mingo’ Diaz has gone to the warmer States north of our borders as he is a ‘gun’ player of darts (and everything else that he puts his hand to including gun’s). For more information about the darts contact the club.

    Tuesday, Gold Tee Challenge, Stableford.

Great to have a competition on a Tuesday after two weeks ‘washout’

    1st – Don Clutterbuck 38 pts (h/c 11)

    2nd – John Koraus 35 pts (h/c 5)

    3rd – Taki Murakami 34 pts (h/c 2)

Good effort by the likeable Don excellent 38 pts. John and Taki filled the minor placings with John being on the podium again later in the week. The lowered handicaps roughly half of what we normally play was ‘interesting’? The lowest handicap in the competition was Alex Scherini having a minus 1 h/c, he slotted into equal third.

    Thursday – Stableford.

    One division

    1st – Warren Shepherd 39 pts (h/c 36)

    2nd – Alex Scherini 36 pts (h/c 7)

    3rd – Josh Foots 35 pts (h/c 13)

Congratulations to Warren, one of the many ‘morning crew’ an exceptional score, surely worth a 42 in summer. Alex and Josh were written and spoken about last week as winners, so this is a repeat and hopefully a threepeat next week.

Kano Blunt Saturday’s winner. A very good all around athlete.

    Saturday – Stableford

    One division

A small field of 26 players.

    1st – Kane Blunt 36 pts (h/c 6)

    2nd – Aaron Knight 34 pts C/B (h/c 17)

    3rd – John Koraus 34 pts (h/c 14)

Well done Kane one of our outstanding greenkeepers on a low handicap, also a very good all around sportsperson. Two shots clear of the field. Aaron and John shared second place also two shots clear of the following pack. More about the name ‘Aaron’ next week!!!! Conditions, as have been mentioned previously are tough, this is demonstrated by looking at the stars in the following pack, all on 32 pts. Mark Jones, Brad Grant, Rod Sargent and Peter Valance all Pennant winners this year.

Every now and then I will use this section to pass on messages to members. And show some photo’s that I haven’t been able to pass on in the past.

I am not a believer preaching about common sense matters e.g. repairing divots, raking bunkers etc. I certainly am not going about being a policeman (that was a former life). I am a believer that all playing partners have the responsibility to be the scrutineers within their groups and help out if someone inadvertently overlooks a divot repair etc.

The holiday weekend is an example where we all must help out afterwards to repair all of the damage caused by unaware or ignorant visitors. It is up to us.

    End of lecture……..

    Stay well, stay happy.
