• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending August 25 2019

  • It’s great to see our hard-working Greenkeepers out on their mowers – with a touch of spring in the air, the grass is starting to grow again! It won’t be long now before all our members who hibernate north for winter are also starting to head for home!
Spring also means lots of opportunities to play in Bowls and Tournaments around the traps and our ladies are starting to fill their calendars with upcoming events.

First up this week was the Yarrawonga Rose Bowl and the North-East District Champion of Champions event held last Friday in glorious conditions. Eight of our ladies travelled over to take part, including our Ladies Champion Nicki Cooper. Competing against 13 other club champions Nicki didn’t bring home the trophy but we are very proud of her efforts in competing at that level. As for the rest of the Mansfield teams, we weren’t disgraced by any stretch, but just won a couple of line balls for Marion Mitchell, Glenis Skinner and Linda Terry.
At home on Wednesday, our ladies played in our club qualifier for the 4BBB Royal Women’s Hospital event. Coming out on top were the pairing of Glenis Skinner and Millie Cumming and Runners Up were Sheryl Sargent and Linda Brook. Well done to these ladies, who will all now play in the district final, which is to be held at Mansfield in early October. They will have the home ground advantage to hopefully progress through to the state final.
On Saturday Millie Cumming won the Par round with -5 and on Sunday, Sheryl Sargent won the Play 9 event which is another club qualifier of a Golf Australia initiative aimed at encouraging more participation in a shorter form of the game. Linda Terry was runner up and both Sheryl and Linda will now be off to Yarrawonga to play in the district qualifier later in September.
