• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending April 22nd 2018

  • It was an exciting week for our lady golfers with our Division 2 team, taking out the 2018 Pennant flag.

The Winning 2018 Ladies Pennant Team.

Played at Bright in glorious conditions against the toughest of competitors Yarrawonga, our girls dug deep to take out the win. With a win from Linda Terry already in the bank on the 15th, Shelly Comerford was square coming up the 18th, but was just pipped on the last hole. The remaining three matches then came in square after 18 holes and the crowds gathered as they each headed off down the 19th. Shirley Nolan did an amazing job to have come from behind 3 holes earlier, to take out her match on the 19th, while Sheryl Sargent had a heart-stopping win on the 20th. That left Donna Sedgman, still square after the 19th, able to shake hands and not progress to the 20th as the team had achieved the win!

It was a very excited group of ladies that returned to the clubhouse and the celebrations were to continue on the bus travelling home and back at our clubhouse when they were met by a welcoming party of members. Captain, Linda Terry, thanked all three Mansfield Ladies Pennant teams, for their commitment, team spirit and good sportsmanship throughout the season and particularly thanked the additional members of the Division 2 team who had played their parts in getting them through the earlier rounds and to the finals. They were Lyn Holland, Lyn Poulson and Patsy Smiles.

With some heads still a little fuzzy after the celebrations the night before for their win in Pennant, 20 ladies backed up on Wednesday to contest the March Monthly Medal. Sponsored by Edith and May, the Medal was taken out by in-form Nikki Coffey (72) for the second month in a row. Runner up was Shirley Nolan (73), still on a high from her 19th hole pennant win, on a countback from Patsy Smiles. Nearest the pins were Louise-Calvert Jones on the 3rd and Nicki Copper on the 7th. Donna Sedgman took out the best score 1-6, and Sam Bailey the Special-Comp Closest Putt.

Thursday’s nine hole stableford saw a nice win to Kay Rose on a countback to Pam Abbott, both with 20 points.

A couple of the ladies had a day out on Saturday, with Lesley Anderson scoring a lovely 67 to win, and Shelly Comerford as runner up with 69. Well done girls! Nearest the pins went to Robyn Baker on the 3rd and Lorraine Cullen on the 16th. Donna Sedgman won the putting.

For all those aspiring lady golfers out there, there will be a series of Beginner Golf Clinics run by our professional Daniel Robertson during April/May.
