• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending 7th April 2019

  • Open Day welcomes potential new golfers

This week featured one of the highlights of our syllabus, with our Winter season Opening Day held on Wednesday. Whilst kicking off our “Winter” season, which runs from April through to end October, it is also a day where we take the opportunity to introduce new ladies to the addiction of golf!

We were delighted that our field of 40 players, included 11 ladies who are thinking of taking up golf, or who have given it a go in the past and we are trying to coax back. We played 14 holes of foursomes so that experienced players could pair up with our newbies and help them find their way around. It seemed without exception, that everyone had a great day and returned smiling broadly – certainly the loud chatter over lunch indicated there were lots of tales to tell and catching up to also do!
Winners on the day were: Div 1 (experience players) Donna Sedgman/ Meg Broomfield on a c/b to Pam Abbott/Louise Ramsay, both with 46.5. Div 2 (pairs including “newbies”), Sue Parsons/Anne Tilbrook 47.5, runners up Lesley Anderson/Marie Daly 56. Line balls in each division went to Shirley Nolan/Lyn Poulson 47.5, Norma Friday/Sam Bailey 49.5, Donnalee Ross/Marg Knapp 52, Robyn Baker/Christine Lawson 58.5, Marion Sargeant/Christie Caldwell 59 and Glenis Skinner/Charlotte Cullen 60. Thanks to all our members who helped make the day such as success.

For the rest of the week, our Tuesday 9-hole winner was Glenis Skinner with 15 for Div 1 and Kay Rose with 14 for Div 2. On Thursday, the Div 1 winner for the 9-hole event was Patsy Smiles 17, and Div 2 Donnalee Ross with 16. Saturday’s field of 11 saw Lyn Holland come in with a lovely 38 points, and runner up went to Gayle Wells with also a very nice 36. Line balls went to Lesley Anderson 36, Anne Watkins 31, Meg Broomfield 30, Andrea Marsden 29 and Millie Cumming 28.
Our Pennant teams also had a very successful week with wins in all 3 divisions, which gives all teams a chance to get into the finals as they head into the final round this week. Great effort girls, and good luck for the final round.
Our next major event is the syllabus is our Annual Bowl, to be held on April 26th where we host teams from all around the district. Our ladies are reminded that we need help with raffle prizes which can be dropped off to the club in the next 2 weeks.
