  • Lyn Poulson wins NEDGA B grade Championship

A big week for the Mansfield Lady golfers as 13 of us headed to Myrtleford to take part in the North East Championships. Day 1 was a Foursomes competition, played in chilly but stunningly beautiful weather and while the results were generally very average and no wins for Mansfield, it gave us all the chance to get a look at the course and the conditions. The 2nd day dawned foggy, grey and cold and didn’t improve much as the day went on, so the golfing was tough and scores unusually high across the board. Lyn

Poulson and Shelly Comerford however took the conditions in their stride, with Lyn taking out that day’s B Grade Handicap event and Shelly the B Grade Scratch event. Day 3 thankfully returned to beautiful sunshine. While we all strived to improve on the previous day (some with much more success than others!) it was once again Lyn Poulson who continued her good form to return another great score for the day and to win the overall 36 hole Championship for B Grade on handicap. Great effort Lyn!
The girls also enjoyed the Championship dinner on the second night which was a country and western theme and a lot of laughs were had as we dressed up, tried our hand at line dancing and caught up with many friends from our sister clubs throughout the district. The season Pennant flags and the Pennant Player of the Year awards were presented. Our own Jenny Foster just missed out for the Div 3 Player of the Year, only losing on a countback.
The Myrtleford ladies excelled in their hosting across all 3 days and our NE committee ran a wonderful event, sending us home with many tales to tell and golfing woes to reflect upon!
At home it was naturally a very quiet week with just 2 players turning out on both Tuesday and Wednesday – well done to Pam Abbott for her Tuesday win and Millie Cumming on Wednesday. On Saturday, six girls still had the energy for golf and Sue Parsons shone winning with 29 points and Marion Sargeant runner up with 26. We look forward to all getting back out there at full force at home this week.
