THE Club concluded its 2016 Championship events over the weekend with the contesting of the MatchPlay finals in all grades, Men & Ladies.

The Open MatchPlay final was won by Junior golfer Oliver Pearson, who defeated Kane Blunt 4&3. Congratulations to Oliver on winning his first Club MatchPlay Championship.

B Grade Men was a tough fought encounter, with Rod Sargent prevailing on the 27th hole to win 1up over a gallant Geoff Brown.

C Grade Men saw Alex Stephens go up against Damien Ryan. Damien took an early lead but was ultimately caught, with Alex taking out the title.

The D Grade final consisted of Nick Jones and John Plummer, with Nick prevailing to take out his first MatchPlay final to go along with his recent D Grade Champion trophy.

Well done to all competitors and congratulations to the winners in each division.

IN Weekly competition golf, Thursday saw another shotgun start, this time at 12 noon which by all accounts is being hailed as a good idea in the winter months. Phil Conway (11) winning Div 1 with 41 points from David Octigan (10) and Geoff Brown (9) on 40 points. Division 2 was won by  Nick Jones (20) on 36 points ahead of Gordon Jeffs (34) with 35. NTP’s went to Maurie Walsh (7th) , Fred Rogers (9th) , David Hurle (12th) & Jeremy Drew (16th). Pro Pin 3rd hole NTP went to John Hayes. There was another tight finish on the Gold course with Keith Millot (29) winning on a countback from his arch nemesis Les Wood (33), both finishing with 35 points.

Saturday was another Stableford event with a small field taking to the course. Steve Chisholm (16) took home the chocolates with 38 points, one ahead of Brad Grant (8). NTP’s went to The Birdman (9th) Sammy Sandhu (16th) and Kane Blunt took home the $30 pro pin on the 3rd hole.
