• Mansfield Ladies Golf Report – 22nd March 2020

  • How lucky are we to be out in the sunshine still playing golf, being such an individual sport! Time will tell whether we can continue however, but for the last week there are still plenty of results to report on.
Our ladies kicked off the week playing pennant on Monday. Our Div 1 team had some tough matches for their 3rd round against Corowa and unfortunately went down 2/3, but both Div 2 and Div 3 scored wins in their respective first rounds. Div 2 won 3/2 against Wodonga at Thurgoona and Div 3 also won 3/2 against Benalla at Howlong. Sadly with new restrictions just now coming into force, this will be the end of our pennant season for the time being.
Tuesday was a quieter day – just 4 ladies contesting the par comp and Annie Watkins won the day with a very good +2.
On Wednesday, we had 20 ladies playing, and we were very pleased to welcome a couple of first-timers to our 18 competition, Sharon Cavanagh and Mary Chiodo – lovely to have you on board ladies! It was a stroke round and the first qualifier for our Golf Vic event the Silver Spoon. Coming out with all guns blazing was Millie Cumming, who scored a fantastic net 65 to win the day a clear 6 shots ahead of the next! Runner Up was Linda Terry on a countback to Meg Broomfield, both with net 71 (a good score on any other day!). Line balls went to Meg then, Andrea Marsden 72, Marion Sargeant, Robyn Baker and Marg Knapp all net 73, Jenny Koraus 74, Same Bailey 75 and Sue Parsons 76. Nearest the pins went to Millie Cumming on the 3rd and Andrea Marsden on the 16th, Linda Terry won the closest chip contest and the closest 4th shot on the 15th, while Millie also won the putting with 27 putts.
Thursdays George Walker 9 hole round had a great turn-out of 15 players with Div 1 being won by Jenny Koraus with 21 points to Sue Crow 19 points. Div 2 went to Anne Tilbrook with a great 22 points to Anne Watkins 18 points. Well done ladies.
On Saturday, it was time for the annual Parsons Family Day sponsored by Bill and Sue Parsons. This 4BBB event designed specifically for family pairings of Father/Son, Mother/Daughter or other family combinations is a special event on our calendar and it is lovely to see some of these combinations coming out to play together. Winning both the Family event and the Mixed event was the mother/son pairing of Louise and James Calvert-Jones with 43 points. Runners-up were brother and sister combination of Dennis Sheahan and Linda Brook with 41. Winners of the separate comp of the day for the ladies was Lorraine Cullen and Sue Parsons with 42 points.
Finally, on Sunday we held a special Sponsors Day and we were very pleased to host a number of teams from our sponsor organisations as a way of saying thankyou for their wonderful support of both mens’ and ladies golf throughout the year.
A final comment – while it seems the world is going mad, it is a definite that this writer has gone mad….in last week’s report I said that we had no luck at the Wangaratta Bowl, when in fact Marion Sargeant had a lovely round, winning C Grade!! my apologies Marion!
