• Xmas fun for lady golfers

  • There is one thing the Mansfield lady golfers are better at than playing golf and that is celebrating our golf with dress-ups, laughter and good spirits!

    The Xmas gang

A record 40 ladies turned out on Wednesday to take part in our Xmas golf day and what fun it was! A Xmas tree, wise man, Santas, Santa’s helpers and a fabulous “sleigh” were all ready for action on the practice green. Santa’s drinks cart was also loaded (thanks Cooksey and Blair!!) and off we went for 14 holes of foursomes fun.

    Nicky & Linda

Prizes for best costume went to Linda Brook as a Xmas Tree and for best buggy to Nicki Cooper in her sleigh! We were thrilled to have some of our very newest members join in and each were paired up with experience players to show them the way. All winners, but those getting the money were the pairing of Shelly Comerford and Norma Friday. Runners up were Millie Cumming/Nikki Coffey. Line balls went to Marion Mitchell/Susan Kinloch, Marion Sargeant/Sue Wilson, Marg Knapp/Alison McKenzie and Linda Terry/Christine White. Christine also won a NTP on the 3rd, and Patsy Smiles on the 16th. The golf was followed by a traditional Christmas lunch and presentations including the countdown of the Premier League Player of the Year award, which was won by Donna Sedgman and the winning Golf Premier League team.

    Golf Premier League winning team

On Monday, a large contingent of Mansfield Ladies headed to Benalla to play in the final round of the NE Vets for the year and what a domination over the ladies’ field, with our girls taking out every prize but one. Winner with 41 points was Lesley Anderson, runner-up Linda Terry (40) on a countback to third place Sam Bailey (40) and Lyn Poulson also had 40. Nearest the pins went to Lesley Anderson on the 8th and Sam Bailey on the 13th. Something went wrong on the 3rd with a Yarrawonga competitor getting that pin! Winning team was Lyn Poulson, Sam Bailey and Lesley Anderson. Great effort girls! Also presented on the day was the NE Vets Ladies Championship which was played over two rounds in October and November and won by, yes, Mansfield’s own, Robyn Baker. Congratulations Robyn!

For the rest of the week, Tuesday’s 9 hole event was won by Marion Mitchell with a nice nett 38 from Pam Abbott 39. Thursdays stableford 9-holes by Sam Bailey with 19 points. Saturday’s stableford was won by Linda Terry with 35 points and runner up Marion Mitchell with 33.

While we might have celebrated Christmas, the golf doesn’t actually take a break – it’s Monthly Medal next Wednesday, so hopefully all that good form continues for our ladies.
