• Mens Golf Report – Week ending August 7th

  • Continuing on from last week, all fields are still very competitive with the weather conditions improving and the course starting to dry out.
Tuesday was unfortunately a washout, despite two hardy souls spending time getting some practice.
On Wednesday, a group of twelve Mansfield golfers travelled to Yarrawonga for a journey around the Murray course. The overall winner was young Oliver Shaw with a great score of 37 points. This score also helped his team win the event for the day. Thanks going to Dan and Chris for organising the day.

Thursday’s event saw a field of 32 fronting the starter for an enjoyable sojourn on to the course.
With only one division, the winner was Dan Robertson (0) with 38 points, whilst Sam Sandhu (20) was runner up with 38 points on a countback. An excellent two under round from Dan. Ball run down went 34 pts.
Nearest the pins were Gary Johnson on the 7th, Geoff Brown on the 9th and the 16th. Roger Eddy took out the pro pin on the 3rd again. Hidden holes went to Sam Sandhu again. There were two novelty events, NTP 2nd shot on 18 went to Geoff Payne and birdie two’s went to Gary Johnson, Peter Baddeley, Roger Eddy, Tony Pridham, Alan Parrot and Geoff Brown.
The rabbits for the day were Michael Harrison and David Octigan.

With the July medal postponed till this week, Saturday’s event saw a field of 33 player’s front with some more great golf being played.
The medal winner was Steve Chisholm (16) with a nett 67 from Phil Conway (11) who had a nett 72 on a countback. Ball rundown went to nett 77 also on a countback.
Nearest the pins was Mark Pearson on the 7th, Michael Cooksey on the 9th Brian Russell on the 12th and Perrin Gooding on the 16th. Geoff Brown was NTP second shot on the 18th. The pro pin went to Kane Blunt and Steve Daykin won the hidden holes.
The novelty of birdies went to Oliver Pearson, Brian Russell and Clive Marsden. The JD Perks scratch winner was Ben Millott with a fine 77 off the stick.

The North East District Sand greens championship was held at St James on Sunday. Despite no major prizes being achieved, a good day was had by your correspondent.

Tip for this week: When playing a deep bunker shot, remember to open the clubface towards the pin. Not your body.

A few notes of upcoming events. The Premier Golf League stars on Thursday September 15th, so get your teams together and join in the fun.
There is the North East 2-man ambrose at Yarrawonga on August 28th. Cost is $30 per pair. A sheet is in the pro shop.
