• Mens Golf Report – Week ending April 16th

  • This week has seen players blitzing the course, with some excellent scores being returned.

    Tuesday was a Stableford event with a field of 31 players fronting the starter.

    The winner was Brendan Egan (18) continuing his great form of late with 39 points. The runner up was Nick Siperki (16) with a creditable 36 points. Ball rundown went to 30 points.

    Nearest the pin went to Nick Siperki on the 7th, with Doug Carney taking the 16th.  Nearest the Pin 2nd shot on the 18th went to a visitor Brian Winter. The Pro pin on the 3rd went to Brendan Egan. The Super Holes went to a visitor Doug Carney, whilst the only two on a par three went Brendan Egan.

     

    On Thursday we had a great field of 64 players front the starter for the regular Stableford event, and also 5 participants in the Gold Event.

    The Division 1 winner was Alan Parrott (15) with 41 points, the runner up being Gary Johnson (16) with 38 points. The winner of Division 2 was Peter Dolling (20) with a great score of 42 points from Bill Moran (26) with 39 points. Ball run down went to 34 points on a countback.

    Nearest the on the 7th was Ben Murphy, 9th was Alan Eustace, 12th was Sam Sandhu and the 16th was Dan Robertson. Nick Siperki collected the pro pin on the 3rd, and the nearest the pin 2nd shot on 18 was won by Oliver Pearson. There were three Super Hole winners, those being John Plummer, Alan Parrott and Maurie Walsh. Rabbits for the day were Charlie Heath and Chris Durkin.

    The Gold Course was won by Peter Healy (32) with 37 points from runner up George Richardson (32) with 34 points. Line balls went to 31 points.

     

    Saturday saw a stableford event being held. With Mansfield playing football at home, only 18 players out of a field of 50 were local members. Nice to see visitors around at this time of year, and also showing us how to play golf!

    The winner of Division 1 was Pat Kilkenny (2) with 40 points (2 under the card) with the runner up being Rod Mackintosh (3) with 39 points. Division 2 was won by Steven Horter (23) with 38 points from Trevor Wright (20) with 37 points. Ball Rundown went to 33 points.

    Nearest the pins were on the 7th Rod Sargent, 9th William Nicholl, 12th Lawrence Apps and the 16th Steven Horter. Nearest the Pin 2nd shot on the 18th was Daniel Cooper. The Pro Pin on the 3rd went to Simon Caldicott. The Super Holes were won by visitors Chris Handasyde (1-4) and Bradley Wood (16-18).

    Please remember that to win the novelty event prizes, you need to enter into the pro comp also.

    A quick tip for this week: To chip effectively, you need to engage your hands and let them work for you. Hinging your wrists is critical to a good chip shot because it allows the club to get up above the grass and hit down with a descending strike. You should feel like you are using your wrist to hinge the club up on the backswing, then release it down into the ball.  You will quickly find that this is a powerful little motion, and only a small movement is required to pop the ball up out of the grass and land it softly on the green.
