• Men’s Golf Report Week Ending 2nd February 2020

    The Midweek results

    Tuesday’s event saw a field of 33 players out contesting a stableford event.
    The winner was Beau Purcell (28) with an excellent 43 points from Shane O’Brien (18) with 42 points. Ball rundown went to 36 points on a countback. The hidden holes was won by Bill Taylor. Nearest the Pins were on the third Trevor Wright and on the sixteenth Tony Crawford.

    The Wednesday twilight competition had a stableford event on the back nine called the Green Keepers revenge. With some rather difficult pin placements and often different tee placements the thirty-five competitors were kept on their toes. The winner was Peter Hood with 25 points from Codie Cummins with 20 points on a countback.

    Thursday’s event saw field of sixty-nine golfers fronting the starter for the regular Stableford event in rather humid and extremely warm conditions.
    The winner of Division One was Rob Healy (15) with a fantastic 45 points from bob Cullen (16) with 42 points.
    The winner of Division Two was Bill Taylor (24) also with a fantastic 45 points from John Hickey (26) with 42 points.
    Ball run down went 38 points on a countback.
    Nearest the pins were Peter Vallance on the third, Dave Waterton on the seventh, Shane O’Brien on the ninth, Stuart Jarvis on the twelfth and Brett Lowry on the sixteenth. NTP second shot on the eighteenth was Roger Eddy. The NTP third shot on the fifteenth was Dan Robertson, whilst the NTP third shot on the tenth for handicaps 21+ was John Gilson. There were two rabbits for the day, and they were Nick Siperki and Rod Sargent.

    The Weekend Results

    Bob Speed “trumping” a drive on Saturday

    Saturday’s competition was a stroke event with a field of 44 players. There was some interesting scores with new handicapping system alterations taking effect.
    The winner of Division One was Craig Walsh (7) with a nett 69 on a countback from Dion Sheahan (8) also with a nett 69.
    The winner of Division Two was Tony (Tuffas) Cooksey (13) with a nett 68 from Bob Cullen (13) with a nett 72.
    Nearest the pins on the par threes were Perrin Gooding on the third, Tony Cooksey on the seventh, Phil Conway on the ninth, Dan Robertson on the twelfth and Graham Mear on the sixteenth. Closest second shot on the eighteenth was Dion Sheahan. NTP third shot on the fifteenth was Dan Robertson, whilst on the tenth was Jason Wilson.

    Sunday saw the men’s summer pennant team playing against Jubilee at home and vying for a spot in the finals. Despite the team winning four and one, they slipped at the final hurdle and had to be happy with third spot. It was a valiant effort by all involved.
