• Men’s Golf Report – Week ending 20th November 2016

    Hitting the ball is the fun part of it, but the fewer times you hit the ball the more fun you have.

    Tuesday was a stroke event with a field of 18 players out for a walk and two players in the Gold event.

    The winner was Bob Speed (21) with a nett 69 on a countback from Alan Eustace (16). Ball run down went to nett 74 on a countback, nearest the pin on the 9th went to Rob Purcell. Assistant Pro David Hurle collected NTP 2nd shot on 18. Winner of the Gold event was Brian Cutis with a fine nett 63.

     

    The daylight saving Wednesday 9 hole competition continued this week with 15 golfers attending for a Stableford event. The winner was Dale Daly with 21 points on a countback from Brett Stone.

     

    On Thursday we had a good field of 48 participants front the starter for the regular Stableford event, and also 3 participants in the Gold Event.

    The winner of Division 1 was Gary Johnson (16) with a great score of 42 points, with Steve Daykin (17) being the runner up with 41 points.

    The winner of Division 2 was Bruce Beecham (30) with an excellent 42 points from Dave McKenzie (30) on a countback.  The Gold Course was won by Peter Healy (30) with 40 points with Ron Britton (33) runner up with 38 points.

    Ball run down went to 37 points on a countback. Nearest the on the 7th was Martin Slack, 9th was Phil Conway, 12th was Trevor West and the 16th was Dave Octigan. Alan Parrott took out the pro pin on the 3rd. Bruce Beecham collected the Hidden Holes. Nearest the pin 2nd shot on the 18th was collected by Brad Grant.

    The two novelty events were nett eagles on Par 5’s, these went to Bruce Beecham and Phil Conway. The other event was 2’s on Par 3’s, these went to Steve Chisholm, Dave Octigan and Phil Conway. The two rabbits were Ian Clark and Charlie Heath.

    Saturday saw a Stableford event with another good field of 43 participants.

    The winner of Division 1 was Rob Fankhauser (14) with a nice score of 41 points, with Peter Baddeley (14)  being the runner up with 41 points.

    The winner of Division 2 was Brett Stone (19) with an excellent 43 points from Greg Millott (28) with 41 points.

    Ball rundown went to 37 points on a countback. Nearest the pins were on the 7th Rob Fankhauser, 9th Dan Robertson, 12th Graham Coker and the 16th Shane O’Brien. Nearest the Pin 2nd shot on the 18th was Mark Bettany. The pro pin on the 3rd went to Geoff Payne and the hidden holes went to Mark Bettany. 2’s on par 3’s went to Graham Coker, Peter Baddeley, Steve Chisholm and Geoff Payne.

    Sunday saw the tenth and eleventh rounds of the Golf Premier League 9 hole event on the front nine.

    Winners for the day were Brett Stone (19) with a fantastic 25 points from Steve Shinns (27) with a great 22 points.

     

    A putting tip for this week:

    Whilst our greens are still recovering from the recent coring, it is a good idea to hit the practice green so as to adjust to speed of the greens prior to the round. You will have a better feel for each putt as you play.
