“Marg Knapp Wins Club Championships”

What a Wednesday it was for the final round of the Club Championships. Big congratulations to the winners – Marg Knapp, Club Champion and winner of A Grade, Millie Cumming winner of B Grade and Marion Mitchell winner of C Grade.
It was a tough day for everyone with nearly non-stop rain from hit off, so much so, that a halt was called to play for an hour. Balls were marked and the ladies adjourned to the Clubhouse to warm up and dry out. The rain eased but the greens remained a challenge. After lightning fast greens leading up to the Championships, we now had to putt our balls on very slow and wet greens.
It was an exciting finish for all Grades though, with two sudden death play-offs and a winner coming from behind. Marion Mitchell and Lorraine Cullen had to unpack their clubs and head out again for a play-off for C Grade. Marion Mitchell managed to win on the first hole after Lorraine’s lovely chip shot headed through the green.
The ever steady and focused Millie Cumming came from behind to win B Grade. Then Marg Knapp and Gayle Wells had to play another three holes before Marg Knapp emerged the winner.
The tension of the day was eased somewhat at the ladies dinner that night. Everyone made a great effort to come dressed as something beginning with F. We had some beautiful flowers, a flamingo, fisherwomen, a flag, a fairy (green coloured to help us with our putts on the greens!), a frump, a floozy, a flapper, a couple of flashers (lights of course), a footy fan (Richmond of course), firewomen, a fishfinger (yes really!), some lovely females and the winner of the best dressed, our Vice Captain Sheryl Sargent dressed as a fly! Gayle Wells was the emcee for the night and made sure we enjoyed ourselves with fines, jokes and some brainteasers.

Back to the serious matter of golf now.
The result of the stroke competition on Wednesday saw Sheryl Sargent win with a great net 74 from Donna Sedgman net 75. Sheryl also won the putting. Line balls went to Lorraine Cullen net 76, Sue Parsons and Millie Cumming on net 78 and Glenis Skinner and Sam Bailey on net 79. Nearest the pins were Donna Sedgman on 3rd, Gayle Wells on 7th, Lyn Holland on 9th and Lesley Anderson on 12th. Glenis Skinner had no trouble chipping in on the 18th for a birdie to win closest 3rd shot.
Other competitions for the week were Tuesday’s stableford won by Marion Mitchell with 16 points and Saturday’s stroke won by Millie Cumming with net 71. Millie also won the putting.
