• Mansfield Ladies Golf Report

  • We are very excited to see so many ladies taking up golf through our Trial Membership initiative and also through the beginner clinics that our Golf Professional, Dan Robertson, has been running. We’ve had 8 to 10 ladies attending each of the clinics held in Jan/Feb and there are a number of clinics now scheduled in March for both beginners and more advanced players. The clinics are a fun, relaxed environment shared with ladies of similar skills and are a great introduction to both the game and to our friendly Club. Check out the Mansfield Golf Club website for all the details if you are considering giving golf a go!

On Tuesday we had 8 ladies playing the nine hole Stableford round and it was very pleasing to see regular 9-holer Lorraine Wilson winning that comp with a lovely 19 points on a countback to the very experienced club stalwart, Anne Watkins. Jenny Koraus picked up the nearest the to pin on the 3rd.
Wednesday was an innovative day, trialling a Matchplay comp along with some skills practise – all in preparation for the upcoming pennant season. But it was also about giving those ladies who don’t play pennant, a chance to experience the challenging Matchplay format of the game. Twenty four ladies played 2x nine hole matches with winners of the first 9 playing off against each other in the second nine and the losers also matching up for the second nine. The final 6 winners taking home the money were Marg Knapp, Sam Bailey, Jenny Koraus, Wendy Hunt, Nikki Coffey and Linda Terry. The additional putting and chipping contests went to Patsy Smiles and Linda Terry respectively.
Our George Walker 9 holes on Thursday was won by Sam Bailey with 19 in Div 1 and Anne Watkins with 18 in Div 2. Nice scores ladies.
Finally on Saturday, 10 ladies headed out for a stableford round with the winner on the day being Andrea Marsden with 34 points from runner up Millie Cumming with 30 points. Balls generously went down the line to 26 points!

Shelley and Sheryl after their win on Sunday in the Victorian 4BBB at Jubilee GC

Topping off the week was a great win to Shelly Comerford and Sheryl Sargent in the Vic 4BBB qualifier at Jubilee on Sunday. Competing against 7 other teams, including 3 more from Mansfield, Comerford and Sargent scored a fabulous 43 stableford points to give them the win and see them heading off to the State finals of this prestigious event over 36 holes at Sorrento and Moonah Links in mid March. Well done girls and good luck in the finals.
