• Mansfield Ladies Golf Report

  • Records have been smashed this week for the number of ladies out there playing golf. With so many unable to head north for winter and also due to our recent membership drive efforts, we have had great fields in ladies golf.
Our golfing week started with a fantastic turnout of 20 ladies playing their 9-hole stroke round on Tuesday. Winner of Div 1 with nett 35, was Lyn Holland from Glenis Skinner, nett 38. Div 2 was won by Marion Sargeant nett 39 from Wendy Hunt with nett 41. Line balls went to Sheryl Sargent (39), Shelly Comerford (39) Patsy Smiles (39) and Jenny Koraus (41).
On Wednesday, the highest number in this writer’s memory, 31 ladies lined up to play 18 holes of stableford. Best on the day was Linda Brook with a fantastic score of 37 points to win Div 2. Runner up in that division was Lyn Poulson 32, and 3rd was Marion Sargeant, 29. For Div 1 the winner was Gayle Wells with 31 on a countback from Lyn Holland and 3rd Donna Sedgman, 30. Line balls went down the line to 27 points and the best score on the par 3’s was shared between Meg Broomfield and Lyn Holland.

Margie Franke-Williams, winner of the March Monthly Medal, contested last week, sinks a putt on the 18th on Saturday.

On Saturday, 22 players contested our May Monthly Medal sponsored by Sanae’s Collections and it was a delighted Marion Sargeant who took out her first Medal in 9 years with nett 75. Just pipped was runner-up Shelly Comerford on a countback from Sue Parsons, both with nett 76. Line balls went to Sue, then Gayle Wells 77, Lyn Holland, Lorraine Cullen and Andrea Marsden all 78, Donna Sedgman 79, Sheryl Sargent and Robyn Baker both 81. Best on the par 3’s was shared between Shelly Comerford and Lyn Poulson and the putting was won by Marion Sargeant. Well done ladies!
It is no understatement in saying that the Mansfield Ladies are very happy to be back at golf and the recent lovely autumn weather has helped make it all so much better. Thanks to all the girls for dealing so well with the Covid restrictions, but is fair to say we are busting to be able to sit down together at some time in the future for lunch, a coffee and a catch up, which we all love nearly as much as the golf!!
