  • Mansfield Ladies Shine at North East Vets Event

Our golfing week kicked off with a blaze of glory at the Myrtleford round of the North East Veterans comp. In a field of 29 ladies, the 10 from Mansfield stole the show. Winner with a fantastic stableford score of 43 was Sue Crow. Runner-up was Jenny Koraus with an equally impressive 42 and 3rd was Lesley Anderson, cleaning up the remaining major prize with 39 points. Sue and Jenny were also part of the winning team score, along with Wendy Hunt. No doubt the locals were left wondering what had happened to the home ground advantage! It is also exciting to see just how many ladies across the north east, are now taking part in this monthly event, which only a few years ago, was very much just the domain of the men.

On Tuesday, an impressive 16 ladies played their 9-hole Par round. Winner of Div 1 was Jenny Koraus with +1 while Marion Mitchell was runner-up on square. In Div 2 Anne Watkins took the win on a countback to Meg Broomfield, both with +1.

Our 18-hole comp on Wednesday just grows and grows. Once typically contested by 20-25 ladies in good weather, we are now seeing over 30 playing every week. This week was no exception with 32 lining up to tee off for the stroke round. On top of her game was Donna Sedgman to take the overall win and Div 1, with a fantastic score of net 65. Well done Donna – great to see you back in form! Runner up in Div 1 was Nicki Cooper with net 71. For Div 2, Margie Franke-Williams had a lovely net 72 from Patsy Smiles on 73. Missing out on the runner up via countbacks were Sue Crow, Wendy Hunt, Millie Cumming and Marg Knapp all also with 73. Lineballs went down the line to nett 75. Marg Knapp won the putting and Susan Kinloch had the best score on the Par 3’s.

On Thursday, our George Walker 9-hole stableford round was also well attended with 11 players. Winner was Jackie Smithwick with 20 points from Shirley Nolan 19, Lesley Anderson 17 and Sam Bailey 16.

Saturday was a 4-person, mixed Gentsomes event and of the ladies that took part, the team of Marion Sargeant, Sue Parsons and Millie Cumming, teaming with Club President Brad Grant, were the stand-outs, winning the best score on the front nine and only losing 3rd place overall on a countback. Great golfing girls.
