  • Marsden wins Ladies Championships

    L to R:
Glenis Skinner (C Grade Champion), Jenny Koraus (D Grade Champion), Andrea Marsden (Club Champion) and Millie Cumming (B Grade Champion)

Mansfield lady golfers played out their championships in picture perfect conditions last week. The leading group after the second round was made up of one player each from A, B and C grades, so there was much anticipation from the field of 31 as to how the final cards would fall. But it was Andrea Marsden who retained her lead, to take out the Championship with 273 by 7 shots over dark horse Gayle Wells, who came from behind with a great final round of 84 and 280 total. Millie Cumming (281) won B Grade and the Veterans event and Glenis Skinner (282) won C Grade and the overall Nett Championship. Winner of D Grade was Jenny Koraus. Congratulations to Andrea and to all winners. Special mention must go to Glenis Skinner, who playing off 27, had 3 fantastic nett rounds of 71, 61 and 69.

Huge thanks to Tony Cooksey and his team for presenting the course in such fabulous condition, despite having to dodge a few significant downpours during the 3 weeks. Also thanks to all our Proshop staff who helped in all sorts of ways to make the champs run smoothly. The girls wrapped up the event with a fun night out at the Delatite Hotel to celebrate.

Wednesday was also the final playoff of our Silver Spoon event, which Glenis Skinner won. Other results were: winner Div 1 Gayle Wells, 66, Runner up Lyn Poulson 68. Winner Div 2 Pauline Ahola 68, runner up Louise Calvert-Jones 73. Line balls went down to nett 77 and Gayle Wells cleaned up with all the special prizes of best score on Par 3’s and 5’s, hidden holes and the putting, with a great effort of just 23 putts.

On Tuesday, 12 players headed out for their 9 holes stableford round. Winner of Div 1 was Heather Anderson 15, with runner up Lyn Poulson 13 and winner of Div 2 was Marion Sargeant 15 with Pam Abbott runner up with 12.

Saturday was a very wet day and only 4 ladies braved the conditions, however Lyn Poulson must have webbed feet winning with a fabulous 39 points!

Next Wednesday is our Medal of Medallist playoff.
