  • Glenis Skinner on Fire with Nett 61 to Win Monthly Medal

The pressure of playing in Championships has different effects on different people – some revel in the challenge and play their absolute best, while others struggle with the pressure and can slip into oblivion. Round 2 of the ladies championships last week saw an amazing dominance of those in the first camp – scores were red hot and we had more sub nett 70’s that this writer can remember in a single round! Any other day, those scoring less than 70 would hope to be in the winners circle, but when Glenis Skinner pulled out the round of the year, if not the decade she disappointed all the other aspiring winners.

Playing from C Grade and with a handicap of 27, Skinner had 88 off the stick to score nett 61 to take out the (delayed) August Monthly Medal, Division 2 and the day – not to mention shooting up the leaderboard to be 3rd overall of the champs and to lead the Nett championship! A delighted Skinner said it was just one of those days, where she could do no wrong! The other great rounds however, included winner of Division 1, Andrea Marsden nett 67, Runner up Millie Cumming nett 69 and runner up of Division 2 Pam Abbott with a stunning nett 66. Fancy “only” being runner up with 66! Line balls went to Marion Sargeant with another great score of 67, Marion Mitchell 70, Jenny Foster 71, Patsy Smiles 72, Sue Crow 73, Margie Franke-Williams 74, Sheryl Sargent 74, Lyn Holland and Nicki Cooper both 76 and Jenny Koraus and Sue Parsons both 77. Great golf ladies! Our thanks as always to our monthly medal sponsors who for this month, was Snowgum Nursery.

Leading the overall championship after 2 rounds is Andrea Marsden (15) with an excellent second round of 82 off the stick and Millie Cumming (23) is in second place after another very steady round of 92. Millie also leads B Grade, with Skinner leading C Grade and Pam Abbott leads D Grade. Our final round this week will be an exciting conclusion to a very different golfing year and I wish everyone the very best of luck.

Other results for the past week include: Tuesday, a big field of 15 played a Par round with Glenis Skinner winning Div 1 on a countback to Linda Brook, both with -1. Div 2 was won by Marion Sargeant 0 to Wendy Hunt -4. On Saturday a smaller field of 11 played ahead of the men’s 3rd round of their champs. Winner was Sam Bailey on a countback to Millie Cumming both with 31. Leading lineballs were Marion Sargeant and Linda Brook with 29 and Heather Anderson 28.

Finally, the ladies would like to congratulate Ollie Pearson for his win in the Men’s Championship. Leading through all 4 rounds it was a great performance from Ollie and a very well deserved win.
