  • Sheryl Sargent Nails Monthly Medal as Golfing Comps Return

It was smiles all round as normality (almost!) returned to our golf this week, as comps were allowed to recommence and it was straight into September Monthly Medal for our ladies on Saturday. While formal comps have been off the agenda, our ladies have not slackened off over the last two months with loads of social golf still being played. Together with a picture perfect course thanks to Tony Cooksey and his team, there was some great scores as a result.

While still being Covid-safe, this group of Mansfield Golf club ladies were delighted to pose for a photo before heading out for their first comp round in nearly two months.

None better than Sheryl Sargent however, who played beautifully with a nett 69 to win the medal and Div 1. Close on her heels was Glenis Skinner with nett 70 to win Div 2. Runners up were Marg Knapp (Div 1) and Jenny Koraus (Div 2), both with nett 73. Line balls went to Sue Parsons, Robyn Baker, Louise Calvert-Jones and Jenny Foster all with nett 74 and Marion Sargeant, Lesley Anderson and Lyn Poulson all with nett 75. Great effort ladies and congratulations to all.

With competitions being allowed to be played again, our syllabus has been re-jigged and is jam-packed with action over the next 2 months. Most importantly, our Championships will be played over 3 weeks, commencing for the ladies on Weds 30th Sept, which we are all very excited about and it is looking like it will be a record-breaking field this year! We are also starting our Premier League next Wednesday and I must say how impressed I was with the girls to get their teams all sorted in about 3 days flat! Again a record, with 9 teams registered already for this round robin fun competition.

As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining and the Covid lockdown has been no exception. With many of our ladies being kept in Mansfield instead of travelling north over winter, others not able to do alternative gym and other sports etc and others working from home and with more flexible hours, we have seen a significant increase in female golf participation over winter. Even more pleasing is having the opportunity to get some of our newer lady members out on course for 9-hole practice rounds and I personally have been thrilled to play with them and see their progress and enthusiasm! Keep it up ladies!
