  • Monthly Medal Winner Glenis Skinner
What a busy week of golf for our ladies. The Mansfield ladies kicked off their week of golf in stellar fashion on Monday, with a win in their first pennant match for the season! Congratulations to our Division 1 ladies for bringing home the 3-2 win over Myrtleford at Benalla. This week they will be hosting, but not playing, at home.
Tuesday saw 8 ladies playing their 9 hole stableford round with Annie Watkins having a ripper round, winning with 21 points. Next best, was runner-up Anne Tilbrook with 17 points. Anne also took out the nearest the pin on the 9th.
Another highlight for the week was monthly medal being contested on Wednesday and won by Glenis Skinner on a count back from Lesley Anderson, both with nett 71. Balls went to Patsy Smiles with nett 72 and Marion Sergeant, Lyn Poulson, Marg Knapp and Sue Parsons, all with nett 73. Some nice scoring their ladies. Nearest the pins went to Sue Parsons (3rd), Linda Terry (7th) and Nikki Coffey (16th) and special prizes to Marg Knapp (nearest 3rd shot on 18th) Sam Bailey for the chipping contest (another of Blair’s creative challenges!) and Sue Parsons putted beautifully to win that comp with just 23 putts!
A good field of 12 contested the George Walker 9 holes on Thursday, with Jenny Koraus winning the day and Div 2 on a countback to Pam Abbott (both 18 points) and Patsy Smiles just pipping Donnalee Ross also on a countback in Div 1 (both 14 points).
On Friday, Linda Terry and Nicki Cooper represented Mansfield at the NE District Ladies Opening Day held at Yarrawonga. A big field enjoyed great conditions (though very windy at times!) and had many a laugh and chat, catching up with all our golfing buddies from other clubs across our NE district. Our local ladies played steady but not outstanding golf, so sadly didn’t come home any richer!
Finally on Saturday, it was time for the Hospital Auxiliary fundraiser golf day. A huge field of 144 took part and ladies were extremely well represented (40 players) with many travelling from Melbourne and around the north east, as well as quite a few “very occasional” golfers who only come out of the woodwork once a year for this extremely worthy cause! Full results will be reported elsewhere, but for the ladies, the winners were the team of Patsy Smiles, Jan Rozenby (Myrtleford) and Gayle Smith (Beechworth); runners-up, Robyn Baker, Sam Bailey and Karen Fraser and third place Linda Brook, Shelly Comerford and Linda Terry. Congratulations to all involved in organising this huge event and to the wonderful sponsors who so generously support it, in particular Martins Garage, Alliance Insurance, Mansfield Foodworks and of course Mansfield Golf Club.
