• Mansfield Ladies Golf Report 02 Feb 2020

  • It is great to see some of our social players joining us for a competition round (well done Sue Crow and Susan Kinloch!), as well as visitors joining us for our comps. The more the merrier I always say!!
So it was eleven ladies who took to the course on Tuesday to play nine holes of stroke with Marion Mitchell winning the day with Nett 36. Runner up was Linda Brook on a countback from Sue Crow, both with Nett 38. Sue and Shelly Comerford (39) took out the line balls.
Wednesday was a less serious comp, but one that tests our golfing strategy! Par Bisque is a competition that is greeted with either a shaking of the head or a sly grin of anticipation! Played as par, but where you can choose where you take your handicap shots rather than it being dictated by the course! Revelling in the format was Nikki Coffey who rose to the challenge and came in with +5. Clearly a hiatus from golf has had its benefits… we welcomed Nikki back to the course after her time out over the holidays, spending school holiday time with her husband and recently named Mansfield Citizen of the Year, Peter Coffey! Congratulations and well deserved Peter!
Others who had a good handle on the format and the course on the day were runner-up Linda Brook (+3) and line ball winners Marion Mitchell, Nicki Cooper and Shelly Comerford (all +2), Marion Sargeant (+1) and Marg Knapp, Meg Broomfield and Linda Terry all square. Nearest the Pins went to Sheryl Sargent (3rd), Gayle Wells (7th) and Shelly Comerford (16th). The closest chip was won by Andrea Marsden and the closest bunker shot by Sam Bailey.
In Thursdays 9-hole stableford event, Marion Foster took the win and Div 2 with a very nice 18 points, while Patsy Smiles won Div 1 on a countback to Gayle Wells, both with 15 points. Runner up in Div 2 was Wendy Hunt, with 14 points.
Twelve ladies were much braver than I, to venture out on to the course on Saturday in the oppressive heat. Clearly taking it in her stride was Lesley Anderson, who won the day with Nett 74. Runner up was Sue Parsons with Nett 76 and line balls went to Marion Sargeant, Shelly Comerford, visitor Lori Seddon, Robyn Baker, Lyn Holland and another visitor Janice Baker (so great to see visitors joining our comp!). The Hidden Holes and the putting went to Lesley Anderson and Shelly Comerford also shared the spoils for the putting.
Wednesday 12th Feb is a match play competition, in order for ladies to hone their skills. To help with managing the draw for this, players are asked to register on the sheet in the locker room rather than on line. Not long now until our pennant season starts, so this will be a valuable practice day, but not just for pennant players – the usual comp fees and prizes still apply!
