• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending 29th May 2016

  • LAST week marked the completion of the Ladies Club Championships, with the winners being decided after three gruelling rounds.

Winner of Division One and Club Champion for 2016 was Andrea Marsden, taking out the title for an amazing 10th time.

Division Two went to Sheryl Sargent, Division Three to Marion Mitchell and Division Four champion was Nikki Coffey.

    Congratulations to all.

The four division club champions – (from left) Nikki Coffey (Division Four winner),- Marion Mitchell (Division Three winner), Sheryl Sargent (Division Two winner) and Division One winner and Club Champion, Andrea Marsden.

The winners were celebrated at a champions dinner held at the golf club on the night of the final round, where the winners and their fellow golfers let their hair down after three weeks of tense play.

Winners of the third round of the championships were Millie Cumming Division One (72), Sue Wilson Division Two (75), Marion Sargeant Division Three (81) and Kay Rose Division Four (79).

Closest second shot on the 10th hole for handicaps 0 to 18 was won by Andrea Marsden and closest third shot on the 17th for 19 plus handicaps was won by Sam Bailey.

Nearest the pins went to Shirley Nolan on the third, Andrea Marsden on the seventh and Nicki Cooper on the 16th.

The putting and the Hidden Holes were won by Millie Cumming.

Line balls went to Linda Terry, Robyn Baker, Sheryl Sargent, Gayle Wells (off on her outback Australia adventure this week) and Sam Bailey.

Tuesday’s nine hole competition was won by Margaret Gray, with Jan Konik second and Alison MacKenzie third.

On Saturday, Sheryl Sargent kept up her winning ways, taking out the 18 hole stroke event.

Now the ladies settle into winter golf – a good time to get back a few strokes on the handicap, with less run on the course, cold fingers and toes, soggy shoes and buggy wheels coated in mud.

    Oh, the joy.
