• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending 28th April 2019

  • A wonderful field of 88 ladies from across the North East and surrounding districts, gathered early on Friday for the Annual Ladies Bowl at Mansfield. They were sent on their way with a shotgun start at 9:30 in pleasant sunny conditions. But oh what a difference half an hour makes, when driving rain whipped up and icy, windy conditions set in. With the battle against the elements, the scores were low but the thought of the lovely lunch awaiting them, still brought the ladies home smiling. Our particular thanks to our Course Superintendent Tony Cooksey, who not only had the course in superb conditions but very thoughtfully arrived with an armful of wood to light the fire, to welcome the ladies back to the clubhouse at the end of their round. Winners of the 2019 Bowl were the team from RACV Healesville comprising Mary Sohlo, Beth Crossman and Barbara Vaughan. Runners up were the team of Julie Kirchen, Judy Langford and Karen Droop from Yarrawonga-Mulwala GC. The same girls won the small teams event and Judy won A grade and the Young Chick events, so we are not sure how their car fitted in all the prizes on the return journey home! Other grade winners were Glenda Marshall (Beechworth) in B Grade, Christine Molony (YMGCR) in C Grade and Mary Sohlo (RACV) in D Grade. Andy Luks and his team in the Paperbark Restaurant provided a lovely lunch, topped up with the usual amazing smorgasbord of desserts provided by our ladies. Fluff Sinclair had the table settings looking fabulous. Our sponsors of Mansfield Bi-Rite, Rustic Hyde, Delatite Special Occasions and Tonga Station / 3 Cheeky Whippets, were all very generous in providing wonderful prizes and our ladies all pulled together to put on a fabulous day. A great team effort and thankyou to all.

A large field of 88 head off to their tees for the annual Mansfield Ladies Golf Bowl

For our regular golf this week, our winner of the 9-hole event on Tuesday was Robyn Baker with 16 points. On Wednesday 23 ladies contested the April Monthly Medal, sponsored by Edith and May, which was won by Sue Parsons with a lovely nett 70. Runner Up was Linda Terry with 73. Division 2 winner was Shirley Nolan with 76 and runner up Norma Friday with 77. Line balls went to Robyn Baker, Wendy Hunt, Gayle Wells and Millie Cumming all with 78. NTP’s were 3rd Shirley Nolan, 7th Lyn Poulson and 16th Sam Bailey. Sue Parsons won the putting, Linda Terry the chipping and Millie Cumming the closest bunker shot. On Thursday it was great to see Jackie Smithwick back on course and taking out a win with 32 points and on Saturday it was good to see Sam Bailey returning the winners circle, taking out the stableford round with 34 points on a countback to an in-form Sue Parsons. The Mansfield ladies will be doing lots of travelling in coming weeks as other NE clubs also hold their annual Bowl events, so we hope to be able to also report on their successes.
