• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending 19th June

  • THE Club Championship season ended last Sunday, when the MatchPlay Champions were decided.

The leading players from the Club Championships contest the MatchPlay in semi finals and then finals.

Division One winner was Andrea Marsden, who defeated Millie Cumming in the final.

This means that Marsden is both Club Champion and MatchPlay Champion – congratulations, Andrea.

Winner of Division Two was Sam Bailey over Sheryl Sargent, and Marion Sargeant defeated Marion Mitchell in Division Three.

Nikki Coffy was declared Division Four winner on a forfeit.

The rest of the week was quiet on the course, with only Wednesday drawing a reasonable field.

The damp conditions can be discouraging, but at least the ground is soft underfoot, for easy walking.

Marg Gray won the Tuesday nine hole, there were no takers for the Thursday nine hole and Millie Cumming won the Saturday 18 hole stableford.

Wednesday’s Stableford introduced a new special competition, involving ‘net birdies’.

To be a winner, the player must complete a hole in one stroke less than their handicap par.

Though the overall scores on the day were not particularly high, 13 players managed to win in this special competition.

Division One winner on Wednesday was Nicki Cooper with 29 stableford points, on a countback from Shirley Nolan.

Division Two went to Lesley Anderson with 31 from Marion Sargeant on 27.

Andrea Marsden got nearest the pin on the third, the Hidden Holes went to Lesley Anderson and Andrea Marsden also won the 18th hole shootout.

Line balls went to Linda Terry, Anne Blampied, Sue Wilson, Shelley Comerford, Marion Foster and Nikki Coffey.
