• Ladies Golf Report – Week ending 14th October

  • The second round of our ladies championships were contested with the course in fantastic conditions thanks to our Course Superintendent, Tony Cooksey and his team. Very strong winds however, made play quite challenging and most ladies found it hard to continue their good form from last week. Sheryl Sargent took it in her stride though, to come in with 91, which added to her 89 in the first round saw her comfortably in the lead at this stage of the Championship. Nicki Cooper moved up the leaderboard with 89 in round 2 to add to her 94 last week, to be 3 off the pace. These ladies will be joined by Marg Knapp and Lyn Holland for the final two Matchplay rounds to decide the Championship. In other grades the top 4 playing off will be: B Grade – Patsy Smiles, Linda Terry, Shelly Comerford and Lyn Poulson, C Grade – Jenny Foster, Lesley Anderson, Marion Mitchell and Marion Sargeant  and in D Grade – Nikki Coffey, Anne Watkins, Norma Friday and Meg Broomfield.

On Tuesday our girls came together to play our annual Daisy Day. This 9 hole event, sponsored by Shelly Comerford, remembers Shelly’s sister and much loved member Daisy Murphy. 16 ladies enjoyed the golf and scrumptious morning tea by Shelly. Our newest playing member Linda Brook, won the overall and Div 2 with a fantastic score of 24 points which included a 4 for 6 points on the 2nd!  This is almost as rare to achieve as an albatross and we can see it won’t be long before Linda’s handicap begins to plummet. Shelly was delighted to present Linda with the perpetual pewter mug and daisy-themed gift. Div 1 was won by Nicki Cooper on a countback from Linda Terry, both with 18. Div 2 runner up was Marg Gray, 15.

In combination with the championships on Wednesday, 30 ladies played in the daily comp with Lyn Holland winning Div 1 on a countback from Sheryl Sargent, both with 74 nett. Jenny Foster won Div 2 with 75 and Marion Mitchell was runner up with 77.

On Saturday, 9 ladies enjoyed picture perfect conditions, with Shelly Comerford winning the stableford event with 31 points and Louise Calvert-Jones was runner up on 29 points. Lyn Holland picked up the nearest the pin on the 16th.

Congratulations also to Patsy Smiles who won B grade at the Royal Melbourne Bowl last week. A course that is always challenging!
